Cat Back Systems for 2019 Silverado Crew Cab Standard Bed

Recommended Posts

I'm having no problems finding dozens of cat back systems for the Silverado 6.2L Crew Cab Short Bed, however, the only cat back system I see for the Crew Cab Standard Bed 6.2 is the GMPP cat back system. Anyone know of others that are making cat back kits for the Crew Cab Standard Bed with 6.2L motor? It's strange to me that Borla doesn't since they are the manufacturer for the GMPP cat back kit...

just curious why not save alot of money and start off with a muffler to begin with ? Power difference between a Cat Back and non cat back is very minimal.. You wont feel any power difference in SOTP anyway . I will be getting rid of my short bed this year and will get a Standard bed and will be doing this. If its a race car its one thing , but with trucks i just dont think its necessary,.

I already bought the muffler for the muffler only replacement, however, with the flappers in place I won't get much sound increase. If I remove the flappers it's going to drone horribly. Cat Back systems are designed to eliminate the flappers and drone at the same time. Muffler only replacements don't have that as an option...

The type of muffler is a bigger factor than the catback itself. Most cat-backs remove everything and just leave you with a muffler and some straight through tubing. That is really no different at all than removing the stock muffler and flappers and installing a muffler in their place.

My 2016 with a dynomax system removes the main muffler, the flapper and the rear resonator just before the tail pipe. It's a straight 3in exhaust with one muffler and a tail pipe section. It doesn't drone or make any odd sounds because I disabled the AFM/DoD system but with it on you notice it.

I could have bought that same muffler and welded it in to get the same sound I have now but I bought the whole thing because it was under $300 at the time with the mail in rebate. So I took the easy way out and bought the system.

I actually disagree to an extent. The way cat back manufacturers angle the piping, choose sizing, and many other factors all effect the sound the system makes. Yes, the muffler is the most important component of this, but everything plays a part in the sound as a whole. My last truck was a 2012 Tahoe. It had the AFM, but did not have flappers or anything. That was as simple as replacing the muffler. With the new 6.2 the DFM is much more finicky. I went to an exhaust shop I had used for years, they said they've played with the different flappers in the past. He assured me that removing both flappers would drive me crazy. We ended up removing the downstream flapper, leaving the upstream. The whole system sounds great now, negligible drone when the DFM kicks in but nothing that is even really noticeable. Super happy with the setup, and for $125 it can't be beat
