N.C. Newbie w/super rich running low mile 1990 C2500

Recommended Posts

Evening and thanks for letting me in.

Fritz here from North Carolina.

I just bought a 62,000 mile 1990 5.7 C2500 Scottsdale with snowplow (why miles were so low, just used on farm & short supplies runs I was told).

I have been looking around the internet on rich running 5.7 tpi motors & have seen suggestions of new plugs, wires, cap, rotor(already done by P.O.) next gonna check the temp.sensor,MAF &TPS but thought I’d join the gang here since I have wanted a nice Chevy V-8 4x4 for decades & while I was “wanting “ many of you were driving and might be able to share some wisdom to head me in the right order.

Truck hesitates (like flooded) to start so I cleared the flood like on an old Quadrajet by putting the pedal to the floor while starting. That fires it right up but I have to feather the pedal to keep it going, there is a real bad exhaust leak (hopefully just the donut gasket) so hard to hear any clues, great oil pressure, but smokin excess fuel & filling the cab.

Can’t even tell you how happy my wife was to see another project out there belching smoke & sounding like a dirt tracker lol.

i am very excited about it though & once I tame it, I think she might even kinda like it (that’s optional though because I damn sure will! Lol : )

Thanks in advance for any advice, also gonna be looking for a reasonable source for door panels, headliner & seat (drivers manual window been off the track so lots O mold to compliment the clouds of rank gas! Ha ha).

Has good bones though.

Thanks for having me.

Regards,

Fritz

Gas doesn’t smell like it has gone bad.

I had to police up all my rigging gear (guy got plow frame stuck on his no ramp trailer so I got it unstuck with a textile “Johnson bar” & a few other old tricks Adapt, improvise, overcome! Heh heh) and tools and covered it up for rain before dark thirty so haven’t looked at anything under the hood filter wise etc yet.

It definitely won’t idle on its own

This “was” my main project, Ram Air 7.5 liter, M-21 Muncie,3:64 Posi, 70 Buick GSX Stage 1 barn find.

Cloned back in the 1980’s so has a nice clapped out look about it.

So laying here awake trying to make the mental switch from no computers or carb to TPI & brains but I like a challenge! : )
