Remote Start Problem

Recommended Posts

Sorry Mafd2 pointed out further down this thread that I was in the wrong section, I have a 2015.

(You're referring to a '15 and this section is for the '19/'20. Try posting in the correct troubleshooting section.)

Thanks to those that gave me some ideas anyway!

Do you have a check engine light on or low fuel light? They system will not allow a start in either condition

I agree, check engine, or any doors open everything has to be OK before it allows remote starts.

Ok, I went out and checked and the darn "check engine" light is on. The gas cap is tight -is there any other simple "check engine" fix?

I don't have a code checker -so, before the dealer trip, should I go to a parts store that will read the code for me?

Thought that I should mention:

I have about 50k miles on my truck.

No mods, except I put in a GM performance air filter when I just replaced a couple of months ago.

Last month, the dealer replaced the radiator and leaking oil cooler lines -under warranty.

autozone and advance will check for free, I'd start there. Of course if it's under warranty, you might be just wasting time.

I also bought an obdII bluetoother checker a few Christmases ago. plug it in and it sends it to your phone. sounds expensive but it was like $15 on sale from amazon. Good to have around.

I can remote start my 2019 with door(s) open.  Have only done it with the driver's door open.  Press lock then hold remote start.

Thanks, my drivetrain warranty is good until, September, but I think it only coverers more specific items and less of them -that's why I thought I'd try to get an idea of what it may be by the code .

I'll have to get one of the obdII checkers you mention -does that work on all of my GM vehicles?

Thanks again

It happens no biggie. You're in the right church but the wrong pew. You'll probably get better results in the '14-'18 troubleshooting section as someone may have had a similar problem. Good luck.

It would be best to get the codes read ASAP or buy a code reader locally so you aren't sitting around waiting for the problem to potentially grow in nature.  Say it's a terrible misfire and dumping fuel into the exhaust, you could damage the catalytic converters.

Just saw that my post still lives -I did post on the correct Forum for my 2015 and thought that the moderator would kill this one.

Ended up being code P0454 " Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor FTP.

I reset to clear the code just to see if it comes back.

If so, I'll visit the dealer and see if it is covered under the emissions warranty or my drive train.

If not, it looks like the part is not too expensive and can be changed by removing the drive shaft and reaching up over the fuel tank.

Thanks again for all the help.
