TPMS Trailer App Question - NEW

Recommended Posts

Has anyone successfully installed an aftermarket 433mhz TPMS sensor on their trailer and get it to link with the trailer app on the 2020 3500 truck?  I've read people talking about it that they are going to do it buy have not seen any confirmation that it has worked for them.

I tried to have my RV dealer install the Tpms sensor on my trailer but they said the holes in my wheels were bigger than the sensor so they stopped. I believe there is a grommet that’s you can get to make them fit. My dealer who is also a GMC dealer did not make any effort to find the fix. Would love to know what folks are doing.

I did install 4 wheel sensors on my travel trailer. I will say it was a pain to get them to link up, but finally got them linked up. One kept loosing signal on my first trip so I had the dealer replace it, which required me to re-link them again. Same pain in the a** process, but could not get it to work with just deflating, so I bought a TPMS transmitter which made it a bit simpler but still not perfect. I did finally get it and they all appear to be working now. Hopefully they keep working for a while!

Were these using aftermarket TPMS sensors or the one's from GM?

I missed that word, aftermarket! No, mine were from GM, came with the truck... But, they were not easy to program either!

I've been trying to find 433mhz sensors that will mount to my 5th wheel trailer and work with the GM factory TPMS system that came on my 2020 LTZ 3500 SRW. The trailer tires are load range G, with a cold inflation of 110psi. The sensors that came with the truck option aren't enough for a wheel/tire of this size. If anyone has info about getting new larger sensors that will work with the truck and not have to add another LCD screen to monitor in the cab, I'd like to know about it please. My dealer threw up their hands trying to figure something out. It seem wrong for the truck manufacture to charge for an option that won't work on their HD trucks, unless you just pull a small utility trailer. I need an option that will work with a 17K pound + trailer. The sensors should use .625" dia. holes I believe, and be able to monitor at least 110 psi. Thanks if you have any ideas.

As far as I know, the trailering app supports only 100psi as the max setting for the sensors

I read that somewhere as well, but I was thinking I could set 99psi as the low alarm point so I could at least have something to let me know of an impending failure without having to add another TPMS system just for the trailer. I check all the rig's tire pressures at least every morning before heading out. Thanks for the confirmation and for the reply!
