Truck broken into

Recommended Posts

I think someone tried to steal my truck last night (my cameras were on but didn't detect anything - it may have happened before we turned the cameras on for the night).   I noticed that my hood was opened when I went out to my truck to go to work this morning so I closed it.  I thought maybe I accidentally hit the hood latch under the dash with my foot getting out of the truck last night.

Well nope, they broke my driver side door handle and lock getting into it.  The door won't open at all - either from the outside or the inside.  I have to use the passenger door to get in and out.

They didn't take anything from inside the truck, so it makes me think they were trying to take the whole truck and then maybe something startled them so they stopped.60139806365__5F8918E4-ACC7-47C9-899D-92619C3AA2E5.jpeg.95babc859b66d2eb496e929f0c7fa006.jpeg

The locks still work, but it seems like the horn might have been disabled or damaged because it won't sound off when I go to set the alarm on my key fob.

they we're trying to install thier own ECU .  , I would install a cheap cable lock around the ECU under the hood for future protection to slow them down.. cut out switch to the fuel pump would be smart too

ah, so they were trying to disconnect the ECU my truck came with, put in their own so they could just use their own key or something?

Well, whatever the reason for it, you’re now aware of it and are more prone to become much more proactive on protecting your truck from something like that to ever happen again, hopefully anyway.

I’m even considering switching out the key unlock hole on my driver side door with a solid pc not giving someone an opportunity to punch out the key hole. I’ve got large LED motion lights that white out my driveway/front yard which are wired on a separate switch

They might have just been trying to steal stuff from inside the vehicle.  I've had the driver's door lock punched in, on my truck.  I'm not sure if they did succeed in getting into the truck, or if they botched the job (punched the lock in, and the lock fell off their tool before they could rotate it to unlock the door),  I have had the garage door opener stolen out of the truck as well, fortunately, I always disable the use of the remote when I am parked at home (and erased that remote from memory and got a new one).

In addition to LED motion lights, running 24/7 video cameras as well, cloud storage, instant notification on whether person spotted or motion (cars) step into the cameras views. If you’re still not sure these will keep it from happening again then secondary alarm systems with separate lithium ion batteries will work but a steering wheel lock may be something to consider as well. Steering wheel lock is much more noticeable with LED lighting.

Window disappears via an automatic center punch, then takes only seconds to hacksaw through the steering wheel.

Thieves do what they do until they are apprehended,  they then continue to do what they do.

Chances are really good that they don't care about lights, cameras, LE or you.

Just let the insurance company take care of it..

Breaking into a vehicle and then breaking the steering wheel lock takes a longer time, in addition, it’s not a parking lot we’re talking about, it’s the home owners driveway which depending what state you live in and with the appreciation of the Second Amendment would give any thief a moment to think twice getting spotting with sufficient lighting would definitely make a thief think multiple times. The thief most likely has visited the house before checking for security and like most people that get relaxed tend to think “it won’t happen to me” and then here we are.

Deterrence is the front line, you’re showing proof that you’ve made an attempt to scare off would be thieves, the rest is wherever your imagination takes you.

best security  known to all governments is secrecy..... at least hide the truck from view in the garage or use a car cover

That would work for someone who doesn't drive their truck everyday but for a daily driver to hide their truck is very unhandy

If you use the firearm over property at best you'll end up bankrupt.

Worse case you'll be somebodys girl friend for a whole bunch of years.

Best of luck. ☘️
