2000 Silverado 2500 Engine Swap

Chris_G

Question

I need to replace the 6.0L engine in my 2000 Silverado; local salvage yards are telling me the donor engine must come from a 99-00 model vehicle. Is this correct? I have found an LQ4 6.0L from a 2003 Express van and was wondering if this would be compatible? Any help or clarification on this topic is appreciated. Thanks

I would call a few local salvage yards, and a few on the net, and see if their answers all match. That's the best way to find out. Their Hollander book should tell them for sure.

I don't have the slightest idea. Everything is so different today with all the damn sensors, reluctor wheel counts, and friggin magic box computers. I couldn't possibly remember all t he different combinations today, unless I did nothing but GM truck engine swaps day in and day out ... and even then I'd probably have to look alot of things up! Crazy world out there in automotive-land today ...

These days, if you're going to grab a salvage engine, you'd better grab EVERYTHING bolted to it, including the transmission. Especially the harness, and computers.
