Got this today and have my appointment scheduled...

Program Title:

Rear Window Defroster Thermal Events - US Only - Exp. 1/31/2022

Program Description:

Certain 2014-2019 model year Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles equipped with a power sliding rear window (RPO A48) may have areas of high electrical resistance on the rear defroster circuit. This could be caused, in part, by mechanical stress from opening and closing the rear power window, intrusion of debris, and use of the rear defroster. Over time, this condition could generate heat that could melt the areas surrounding the circuit. In rare instances, this heat could cause a non-propagating fire, increasing the risk of property damage or injury.

 

Repair Description:

Dealers will replace the buss bar covers and contact cover. If the rear window or sliding glass assembly appears damaged due to an occurrence of high electrical resistance on the rear defroster circuit, they should also be replaced.

Monday morning 02/10/2020 remote started my truck. Put something in the back seat, closed the door and the rear window passenger side shattered. I had been smelling a melting plastic/electrical smell on an off this winter. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the entire rear electric sliding window.

I know this is late but possibly worthwhile info. I just had the same problem on my 2015 2 days ago so I did a little research.

 

The recall was only sent to certain states.  My dealer in MA told me that my VIN did not appear on the recall list. Possibly my truck was swapped from NH which "is" on the recall list. Yours could possibly have the same issue from MN or WI which are both on the list.

 

So anyway, the dealer said they weren't going to cover a single penny.  I called the support number referenced in the recall which is 1-800-222-1020.  The customer rep created a case for me and will be calling the district where my dealership resides.  I'm expecting to hear back with a different story tomorrow or the next day.

 

The recall has an end date of 2/28/2022 so if you want to act on this now is the time. Assuming you already paid for your repair you can still submit a claim for reimbursement as long as you get it to the dealer before 2/28/2022 to get inside the deadline.

Well of course it is expiring on Feb 28th... Unfortunate life changes are going to result in me relocating to Wisconsin within the next month or so and then I would have a truck registered in one of the target states. I was actually looking forward to trying to get this done shortly afterwards. But of course there is no way to get the registration done before the cutoff. Maybe I will get lucky and they will extend the date or start a new program that I could rake advantage of but I'm not going to hold my breath. 

 

On the positive side, I never suffered the failure and when I began reading others having issues, I pulled the fuse as a preventive measure. I was planning on reinstalling the fuse but will not now. And in reality, since I have a topper on my bed for last couple of years, I never really needed the rear defrost but do use the remote start quite often during the winters and that's where many suffered the damage.

Actually, I contacted Chevrolet support and they determined that my truck originally came from NH to MA.  Since NH was in the target zone the support person got the original NH dealer to volunteer to repair it for me for free.

 

If you contact Chevrolet support today maybe you have a chance if your truck originally came to your dealer on an exchange from out of state.  Refer to my case # 9-7344053773 if they need an example of the issue.

That's not going to work either. I know that mine was originally shipped to a dealer in Dayton Ohio and then to Merrillville Indiana where I purchased it. Neither Ohio or Indiana fall into recall locations.
