extended warranty

Recommended Posts

i am wanting to get some info on extended warranties, especially gmpp. my '01 HD has just passed 30k and that extra 6k will pass by soon so i need to get on the ball with this and figure out which one i want to go with. i have found a dealer that sells the gmpp, but the funny thing was that the finance guy didn't mention the gmpp until i pressed him on it. he gave me a round figure of about $1800 up to 75k miles with nothing in writing. i am also interested in what they don't cover. i figure that they would cover the tranny, but will they also cover the clutch? and what about the motor? mine's an 8.1. will the warranty cover it all and everything under the hood? are there any normal mods that might cause me problems with the dealer.

also can i haggle this price down with cash in hand or is the price set in stone?

The only one I would consider is GMPP. The other ones can be troublesome, go out of business, and you generally have to fight tooth and nail to get them to pay what is in their contract. I've had to fight for customers as well as threaten legal action myself with Honorgaurd just to get them to cover what was covered in their contract.

I only recommend manufacturer backed extended warranties. They may cost a little more, but there is no where near the headaches dealing with them.

Philmo,

Give Blake Huddleston a call at 1-800-259-1200. He is in the finance department at Classic Chevrolet. I purchased my GMPP through him. He is a great guy to deal with. He can give you all the information you need and set you up with a policy for a good price.

Hope this is helpful, Joe

I have definately used my GMPP. I got the 5/75,000 mile plan with $0 deductible for $1400. I now have 64,500 miles and have had the following fixed after 36K miles.

1. fuel regulator replaced

2. Driver side power window assembly replaced

3. Front axle seal replaced

4. Both heated mirrors replaced

5. HVAC control assembly replaced (two lights were burned out)

6. Fuel sending unit replaced in the tank

7. New resistor for blower speed #1

The 5yr/75000 warranty is just and extension of the base 3yr/36000 warranty. So you are just adding an additional 2yr/39000 miles to the base warranty. I wish it worked the other way around. I got the extended warranty through the dealer when I purchased my truck. I think it was around the $1600 mark. I am well into it with almost 47000 miles on my truck. I am hoping for no problems, but I understand that if something happens the warranty will more than pay for itself. :jester:

Just out of curiosity - can anybody call Blake ?? Call me an idiot - but my wife's 02 Trailblazer is getting real close to 36k (34.9) and I really dont like any of the dealer close to me.

She still hasen't decided if she wants a new Tahoe yet...so we might just be buying the extended warranty for now.

Also - any ideas what 5yr 75k GMPP should cost for 02 Trailblazer LT ??

Thanks

I bought my 01 2500HD at a Ford dealership because I didn't care for any of the Chevy dealerships in the area. I got her last June with 18800 miles on her. When I got her I decided to get the extended warrenty through Ford. I ended up getting a 75000/5year deal for $1500. I am at 26870 miles now and I will be taking her in sometime in the next 2 weeks because I have a couple of things that I need to get replaced.

I went through API from the dealership. The give you a pro-rated dollar amount back if you don't use it, and the full shot back if you don't use it and take it to the end of the term purchased. For instance I paid around 12 or 1300 for it. It was a 6yr 100,000 mile warranty covering almost everything except wear items. If I had taken it to the 6yr or 100,000 and remembered to send them a letter withing 30 days, the full amount returned to me. As it was I traded the truck in at 42,000 miles and am recieving 6hundred something back. I thought it should have been more but at least it's something to put toward the next one if I decide to go that way. Never heard of getting moneyt back before. Will probably go that way again.
