Dead 10 speed.....

Recommended Posts

Fun times!   Leave a stop light on a 55mph road, truck shifts to second from first.   Then shifts and nothing.  Just engine noises.  No go.  Manage to get over to the right and the truck bangs back into second gear and stays there.   Turn it off when I get home, open the door, close it and restart it.  Same scenario.  First to second to nothing.  Now no reverse.    Not happy right now.   1900 miles

Should have gotten an ‘18 so you could have the 8 speed. JK but I hope the dealer gets it fixed for you quickly.

Yeah..... that’s exactly why I got the 10.... so many problems with the 8.  I’m ready to go back to the 4 speed.....

$hit happens, sounds like the tranny went to default second gear "limp-in mode" to crawl to service to get it corrected. Might be something as simple as a sensor......Chryslers were notorious for losing their out put turbine sensor, a cheap 5 minute to replace part,  which identifies the gear (ratio) to the computer and once signal is lost even though tranny is mechanically 100% operational you're SOL because the tranny reverts to safe mode second gear as a precaution to prevent further damage on the chance it is something more severe.

Mine has the '19s start/stop, a late version of the 8 speed stock with Mobil1 HP juice, redesigned from prior versions lacking the accumulator necessary to supplement the mechanical pump for tranny pressure maintenance during an engine auto stop. I remember reading that the 10 speeds with start stop went to an even more complex kludge using an electrical tranny hydraulic pump for handling an engine auto stop.  I hope the electrical pump is only a backup pressure source like the accumulator, and not just a simpler (cheaper) replacement for both the accumulator and the main mechanical pump.

So far looks like I did better than OP's10 speed because it has been working just fine.....an occasional firm first 1-2 shift after an overnight sub freeezing cold, otherwise peppier and smoother shifting than any of my previous GM 6s or 4s....a winner.

Who has all these 8sp problems?  My 2017 6.2L/8-sp is pushing 30,000 miles and no problem.

Almost all of them. The early ones anyway. They have problems in the trucks, camaro, corvette, and pretty much every other application they are used in. All over every forum.

Back on topic op let us know. I have a 19 AT4 6.2/10 myself with 9300 miles and its been perfect. I do turn off stop/start every time i get in. Hope its something simple. First real 10 speed issue i have heard of.

Definitely keep everyone updated.  I agree, first problem I’ve heard of too.  On a different note, for my fellow 10 speeders, is your shift from first to second “soft / slow” sometimes?  I did notice that, occasionally, seemingly based on throttle position, the shift from first to second will have a slight delay, but then continue on normally.  If I give it more gas, it shifts faster and is fine.

Trying to determine if it’s inclusive of the problem here or “just the way it is”

My truck also has a noticeable hesitation between 1st and 2nd, but all other shifts are smooth and fast. I notice it more under light throttle.

Here’s a true fact:

People will believe 25% of what a stranger says (sales person).

55-75% of a friend ...BUT

They will always believe 100% of what they tell themselves...

Forums don't account for every single one on the road.  Plenty of 8 speed stuff that comes through our doors, and a handful of them had the fluid flush.

I 100% agree and i am usually the person who says exactly that but the 8 speed is hard to ignore. A quick google and you can find endless problems and not just on forums with owners complaining. It has made multiple mainstream news stories. I’m sure there are more on the road with out issues than with but it is absolutely known as a bad transmission.

Anyhow sorry to get off topic. Back to the op and his 10 speed.
