Off road led light bar

So instead of paying like $1200 for some over priced light bar exact fit kit I did my own.I bought simple 90° angle brackets from Amazon and a 32" curved light bar and wiring harness from Amazon also,Nilight brand.I have used their lights before and even though they are inexpensive the freaking work great.I spent $28 on the lower led fog lights and about $83 for the light bar,harness and brackets.Install wasn't tough,just measure,drill and fasten.The wiring harness is all put together,just ground,fish through and secure,then power to the accessory power post on the battery.Easy.On the fog lights I unbolted(3 10mm) bolts from the factory plugs ,cut them out with a Dremel and they went right in.The switches are on the lower dash panel,left side,to the right of the park brake switch.Easy install,I didn't pay $275 for the factory fogs kit and $1200 for a specific fit kit.I did try to put it behind the grill but there isn't enough room for it.Maybe a different type of light could work but I like how it turned out.

My other mods are an AFE dry flow drop in air filter,an AFE Silver Bullet throttle body spacer,a Flowmaster Flow FX muffler,and a JLT oil catch can.Also Ionic 5" black side bars,Gator tonneau cover and an AVS smoke bug shield.Everything installed easily.The AFE products are too notch and work!The Flowmaster Flow FX muffler is $38 and made of stainless steel and it's a perforated tube and a straight through design.The acceleration and throttle response is sooo much better and the mpg is up 2.The muffler has a moderate sound and no drone inside the cab.I highly recommend the oil catch can, damage will occur if you don't have one as the blow bye corrodes the intake manifold and combustion chamber.I have seen and witnessed the damage.$149 is way cheaper than a cam,timing set and lifters.By the way it's all GDI engines regardless of the manufacturer.I remove 3 ouncesof oil from the reservoir at each oil change,which would have gone through the engine.Don't risk it.

Thanks I appreciate that.I have owned 12 Chevy trucks and I really like this new truck,it looks pissed off but it has incredible space and I have to say that the off road (hill descent) button feature is fantastic.You push the button and the truck takes you down a steep off road hill smoothly.My wife used it and thinks it's the coolest thing about the truck.

Oil doesn't eat away at the intake manifold though, or at the metal in the cylinders. GDI engines with poor PCV problems just leave deposits on the back side of the intake valves. Some engines are more prone to it that others.

 

I don't run a catch can, everything is fine with mine lol.

I tried a 32" curved bar from Nilight and it was too thick plus you would have to fabricate brackets.I chose to put mine on the bumper,drilled 2 holes.There are very expensive kits out there,like around a $1000+,seems like overkill for a light.I did mine for $83.

Just so you know that the only thing that should ever be in the combustion chamber is air,fuel and spark.Enter engine oil and things start to go south in a hurry.I witnessed a 2015 Silverado 6.2L with 140,000 miles come into the shop with a flat cam.A chunk of carbon from oil blow bye stuck a lifter and flattened a cam lobe.That is why oil catch cans are essential for GDI engines.The Hemi engines are the most prone,they catch around 6 ounces of oil per oil change interval, horrible.

Also with GDI engines is the fact that the valves don't come into contact at the rear with fuel,so all those additives in the fuel to combat corrosion are worthless.GM and Fraud have taken notice as the 2019 ZR1 Corvette and Shelby GT Slowstang have GDI and port fuel injection.The port injection sprays the valves.

The other reason for adding port fuel injection because they wanted more fuel flow and a better way to use fueling in those applications.

 

Yes, you don't want oil in the chamber but all engines end up using a little bit of oil anyway. Not all the oil is scraped away by the piston rings. I'm fine with not running a catch can.

Just want to say that BG Products is in business due to GDI oil blow bye.Their stuff is shop exclusive and expensive to get done. My brother in law runs a shop and likes their stuff but admits that the cleaning agents are very harsh to metal parts and sometimes it can foul up the catalytic converter.The oil catch can is an easy 10 minute install for a $149 at JLT Performance and it performs very well.I won't need BG Products but you may at some point.There are tons of GDI engines that are scrap now at lower than expected life due to corrosion.I heeded the warning signs and have put them on my SS Camaro and the Trail Boss Z71.I am sold on them but if you are not then good for you.The invoice on the '15 Silverado was about $2K,$149 is a lot cheaper.

I’m looking for information on the Flowmaster muffler, all I’m find when searching is complete exhaust systems. Do you happen to have the part number and where you purchased the muffler from?  Also what size engine is in your truck?  I don’t know if the muffler is a different size on the 5.3l vs the 6.2l. The engine is a 5.3L and the 6.2L has the same factory exhaust system which is 2.75" pipe.Doing an aftermarket exhaust system is overkill due to the fact that it will be 3" pipes and that is a super minimal gain over 2.75".AFE makes a good system and it adds 5HP and the Flowmaster Flow FX muffler does that easily.The part number at Summit racing is FLO-71229,you need an offset/center design and it's a 3" muffler.My exhaust guy used one of those pipe stretching tools and welded it up no problem.The initial sound is moderate but after 500 miles or so it got louder bit still not too loud and no drone inside the cab.The total add ons including the throttle body spacer,dry flow drop in air filter,the muffler and the catch can(no performance gain but necessary) added way more throttle response and power as well as sound.Good luck.Also I just did the Sealight S1 LED headlight conversion kit($85.99-15.00 coupon@amazon) which includes high and low beams.Looks amazing now and not too expensive.
