There’re really not that loud with just a muffler delete. I’m my younger days it would’ve been perfect. About the same as a performance muffler. With all the cats and resonator they muffle the sound progressively. To lessen restriction. The muffler is just a part of that. As far as inspection that depends on the state. No problem in Texas.

Agreed.  The muffler and flapper delete isn’t as loud as you would expect it to be.  I mean it’s loud when you mash the pedal, but it’s not obnoxious by any means, and pretty tame when cruising down the road.

So they actually check to see if you have a muffler?  It’s not just an emissions thing where they sniff the exhaust for hydrocarbons?

It’s depends on the shop, I’ve had some “Harry Hardo” give me a rejection sticker just because I left my hitch in. He could’ve just told me to remove but instead stuck an R on there so I had to take the hitch out, get back and line and have him do it again. I havnt gone back to that particular shop again but my point is some shops follow the rules and regs down to every minor detail. Others might skip over it and let it slide if it doesn’t throw a CEL. I could do the muffler delete  and just clamp it on instead Of welding it and swap it out before inspection

Here is a sound clip from me playing around today up on some mtn forest service roads...

Love seeing this!!!! Doing what the truck was actually built for!!! Having FUN in the mud... Sounds great too... I have yet been off road with my TB, just picked it up last month and all the forest roads have feet of snow on them now... This will equal lots of melt and mud to play in this Spring...

Your posts have been extremely helpful, is there any chance you could send me a picture of the exhaust under your truck also?

Was rainy yesterday, I will get out there and snap some pics this morning as soon as it warms up a little

Muffler and flapper delete.  $100 at the local muffler place.  Cut out muffler and flapper as one piece, bend a piece of pipe as shown above, and weld it into place.

Cover the screens if you want it even louder and are willing to live with a bit of droning while cruising, or leave them alone, enjoy a deep throaty bark on start and acceleration, and an almost mellow stock level of quiet when cruising down the road...  Just a soft rumble to let you know it's alive... and stomp on it to hear it roar again...
