I’ve put exhaust on every pickup I’ve owned since the seventies some with headers up to my 2014. It was always my first mod. I usually go to the exhaust shop before I went home. Some simple muffler change others full duels. I never felt a loss in power. They usually seem quicker because of sound. If there losing power now, that’s a new one.

I highly doubt that the truck is losing power from a slight loss of back pressure from a muffler.

Awesome job!!! I found 3inch stainless pipe on Amazon, just wondering what length pipe you ordered? Do you know the length of the entire stock muffler you cut out? Also I imagine you ordered 3 inch clamps? I was thinking of having it welded in, but it looks like the clamps worked well for you... Thanks for any Information.. Scott

this pipe may be what you're looking for. This is what I'll be ordering in the future unless something else come along

be careful with this. I search to see if there was a better price through Amazon and the two reviews listed that the pipe was not long enough to remove the flapper valve. Not a big deal if you clamp it open but you need to know that before you cut the pipe.

good to know, what I noticed was the bends were needed to fit the two pipes after removing the muffle

That’s how I did mine. Stainless steel 3” straight pipe deleting only the muffler and flap using stainless steel band Style clamps and hardware. Granted I do have the custom with dual exit unlike you but I love it. It’s not too loud but definitely wakes up the sound on my 19’ 5.3

Where did you get the pipe?  Premade replacement or bent up?

The pipe I got was off Amazon as well, it’s a 3 inch stainless steel straight pipe. I didn’t take measurements however it’s the same as the length of the muffler and flap. However the stock exhaust is smaller than 3 inch so I had to run to Napa and get those stainless steel clamps that you see in the picture. I want to say it was 2 1/2 to 3 inch. It turned out well as the flex in the front took up any need for a bend in the the pipe, I have the dual exhaust option being that it’s a custom and had no issue with anything lining up after I did it

My advice would be to remove the muffler but leave the resonator in place.  I would also recommend getting rid of the flapper valve, but that would depend on whether your truck has AFM or DFM?

What's AFM & DFM?

Dynamic Fuel Management is the newer system where any number of cylinders can shit down to save fuel.

Kinda figured that was what the AFM was but wasn't sure. DFM can "sh.t" down cylinders to save fuel? LOL

well after reading this post, i set my mind on a muffler delete. while out the other day i stopped at two different muffler shops...first one was a circus, all to find out they wanted 150ish to do it. the second shop also wanted 150...but i had to provide the clamps and the sawzall to cut the muffler off...needless to say neither shop got my money. since i actualy like working on my vehicles my self my next step is to find the 3'' pipe i need and do it myself. for those that took this route, is a flex or a bend necessary ?
