Soooo I screwed up

Recommended Posts

I was taking off the Chevy bow tie on my trail boss today for plasti dipping (Trying to black out the truck and get rid of all the chrome and red), got the clips off And the bow tie came off perfect. No problems. Then...I tried to take the little z71 off the grille the same way and the badge broke, and one of the clips on the badge mount broke. Think my warranty will cover a new badge (only 6,000 mi on the truck) I have no idea how to take that thing off and if I get a new one, I will just plasti dip it in place.

if my warranty doesn’t cover it, any idea on cost to get the dealer to replace it?

Unless you can sweet talk a dealer really well, you’re gonna be buying a new badge yourself. Not really a warranty failure when you break it yourself.

Usually for the little grill badges you have to get behind the grill to release the tabs without breaking it. You might be able to get behind it without removing the grill by pulling off the upper radiator shroud (two T15 screws to remove the hood release handle, and then a bunch of push pins on the shroud). With that off you can probably reach down and release it.

Just be thankful you didn’t break the grille. Order a new badge (or just do without a badge), and move on.

You could say it was "An act of God", nothing to loose at this point.

Haha that’s what I was thinking of doing, but I might just go without it for a while. I kind of figured it wouldnt be covered, but when I was 16 I had an Infiniti g35 and I had a pencil in my pocket and it put a hole in the leather seat and they gave me a brand new leather power driver seat for free under warranty. I guess I just got super lucky or something.

Yeah I am super thankful I didn’t break the grille. I will just move on and forget it about it. Not worth the struggle.

I would estimate your chances on getting the Z71 emblem warrantied at about 0%.

You’ll have to pony up the $60-80 online and get a replacement like some of us non-TB Z71 owners have had to do.

That’s what I figured. Thanks for the input

Nothing to lose, except for his integrity. He broke it. Should not even attempt to have it covered under warranty. Frivolous claims like this hurt everyone else.

You are correct.

My apologies for trying to make a joke, seems like the OP got it, his response it listed above this one.

Everyone that was very concerned about me wanting to use the warranty on a truck I paid $50k for on a $60 item can relax lol. I am not going to ask for them to replace it as I know they won’t cover it anyways, but figured I would ask the members here for their opinion and not get scolded for it. Apparently, that’s what happens on this forum as I have come to see in many posts. Anyways... I have come up with this solution. I did not want to try and take off the bracket that held the emblem and cause further damage to the grille, so what other choice did I have? Cover it with carbon fiber vinyl of course!! What you described would not be "using the warranty".  Most likely, it would be committing fraud, unless you told them you broke the part while trying to remove it, which you likely wouldn't say if you actually tried getting it replaced using the warranty...
