Best performing exhaust with quite sound

There’s also a 33% chance you’ll lose power by adding a new exhaust or messing with your current one. 33% you may gain a few extra horse power which you WILL NOT even notice and then the 33% chance you’ll not get anything out of it other than a sound difference. Quite honestly, you’d need at the least a really good tune and CAI in order to even really make a difference but then you really don’t even need an exhaust to get extra hp, just a tune will do. I was informed by a few people in the industry to NOT add an exhaust cause the 6.2 gets really loud, much more than the 5.3. I love the way my stock exhaust sounds with remote cold start, smooth and enjoy peace inside cab lol

Yeah I can see where those people in the industry are coming from, cold start my Gibson is really noticeable for sure, but the loudness dies down most of the time before I even make it out of the garage. I did order a Airade MIT and I'm on the fence about returning it and having my local GMC dealer or exhaust shop put back on the factory exhaust. I only had to cut the longer of the two pieces and I found it on the GMfactoryparts.com. or something like that, and that piece is only like $350. So $100-$150 to reinstall, I would do it my self but I would not be able to get the full length piece back in on the ground..

Well went ahead and put on the Airade MIT. When I did the exhaust I didnt disconnect the negative battery terminal,  but I did for this install. I feel it may have been a wise choice to "reset" the ECM like both instructions said to do. Here are some before and after pics..

Looks good. It’ll relearn either way, but it’s probably not going to matter since the MAF sensor position and air box are the same.

That's kind of what I thought, with all the talk about the GM CAI and having to be reprogramed, when I seen that I did not have to move that at all. As from what I hear the re-flashing is because the intake tube diameter is larger on the GM CAI, and my MAF sensor is in the same size pipe.

Well the wife may have made my mind up for me. I do like my Gibson exhaust, the only thing that is annoying is having to listen to the DFM, which you can hear every change in the amount of cylinders it turns off and on, and it's getting kind of annoying after just over a week. I do like the sound as it is not too loud in the cabin, but I guess its kind of loud outside as she informed me that it's been waking her up at night when I come home from work. So I will be calling my local GMC dealer and seeing just how much they will charge me to reinstall the factory set up. I found it on GMPARTSDIRECT.com for $372 for the larger section, which is all I need as I still have the other for the drivers side and $102 for shipping. So if I can gain access to a lift I can just do it myself if not I guess I will have to see again what they will charge, parts and labor, or if they will let me bring in the part for them to install..Kind of a sad day, but at the same time, after driving it for a week, I feel too I may be getting to old to have the loud exhaust.

I have a 2017 Denali 6.2. Texas speed full system. Long tube headers/off road mid pipe, no cats, 3” all the way out the back. No emissions in my county so. Cat back will gain very minimal as the front half is so restrictive. Most people just like the sound. I wanted to start with this setup and b&b airbox. I’ve been down this road a few times. With just airbox it made 369 at the wheels. After exhaust with tune, 408hp/465tq. It is noisy because of muffler but going change soon. Love my 6.2!

I just drove mine with that same cold air tube/kit and the Gibson catback 300 miles. With out the range disabler it sucked, I had to use it the sound was horrible.  I like the gibson alot but it's a rusty mess and it looks awful on my 2k mile truck. I'm thinking of putting the stock exhaust back on with the muffler delete.

What is the "range disabler?" And your saying that the Gibson exhaust is all rusty already after only 2K miles.

I have a custom, has a 5.3 with afm. I have a range afm disabler. Keeps the truck in v8 mode all the time.  My truck only has 2500 miles on it. 900 miles ago I put the gibson on and its rusty brown already. If i look in the wheel well u see the brown pipe which sucks.

Nice, cant wait. Yeah from what I have read, no one has been able to crack the 19+ ECM to be able to do such a thing. I would if they get if figured out.

Gibson uses 409 stainless. 304 is marine grade. 409 has more ferrous, meaning it will get surface oxidation. It’s structurally sound but looks ugly. Use high temp clear coat before installing or something like fluid film to project it prior to installing. A mild coat of high temp grease also helps for protection, but again, needs to be done prior to the oxidation.
