astolt12
2006 Silverado 1500 4.3 V6 Engine 115,XXX miles 2x4 Driveline Driving around these last few days I've had the "Service Brake System" come up on the dash. When it comes up the ABS and Parking Brake light illuminate simultaneously and the car chimes a good dozen or so times. This just started the last week or so and would happen every few days but the frequency is picking up. The last few times it's happened to me i was not even using the brakes, rather just driving under power. I've done the basic checks, ensured the brake fluid is full, no leaks that I can tell of from all 4 wheels and there is plenty of stop left in her when I go to engage the brakes. Everything seems just fine with the truck in regards to the functionality of the brakes, but obviously this is somewhat concerning. I can only imagine this some sort of sensor/module issue? Unfortunately I do not have any high end scanning tools to check chassis codes, only PCM codes at the moment. Like to start here before going to the dealership. Searching the internet and forums I've seen a few mentions saying this could be a failing ABS module or potentially a dirty wheel sensor. Any input you all may have is greatly appreciative. I have a trip this weekend coming up where I will be putting a lot of miles on her so I am looking to hopefully address this before then. Attached is a picture from this morning's drive in. davester
try cleaning the ground connection for the ABS computer. Under the driver's door, on a "wing" off the frame, there are some wires bolted to that wing. Unbolt the wires, clean off the connectors and the frame around that bolt, and the bolt, bolt the wires back down and put a bit of dielectric grease over the assembly. astolt12
Gave that a shot before the drive. Took two wires off, ground the frame a little and put some silicone on it. Worked for about 100 miles and then it came on and stayed on. I was able to get my friend to pull the Codes and I have the following: C0055 C0550 C0161 googling and reading this it sounds like a sensor, but also sounds like it’s a seemingly large electrical gremlin! any insight? I took the truck out and really hit the brakes, and was able to get them to lock up sometimes and slide (not good) and in the same drive when I locked it up the truck acted like the ABS system was perfectly fine and stopped as expected, despite having the lights on the dash illuminated

astolt12
All, To circle back I went and tested all the wheel speed sensors, VSS in the trans as well as the wiring upstream - everything was good. Took the ABS computer out and tried to reflow the solder on it but had no luck so i ordered a refurbished ECBM off rock auto. Installed it and the lights went away. Looks like the computer just had enough and decided to fail.
