low oil level

Really?  Not even the venerable 5.0 Coyote Ver.3 has cylinder deactivation and it come with a brand new Dipstick with new spacing of holes and cross hatched area to allow for 2qts of oil usage between changes!  Chevy small block?  GM V-8 any day, all day not sure why people bother with the other V-8's....

Honest. When I change my oil in my truck it's at the same level as when I put oil it in the last time. My '04 before this one was the same way.

Now, recently my wife drove a Honda Pilot and we had to have that reringed under warranty extension, and working at a Honda dealer in parts we see this often.

ive never owned a chevy that doesnt burn a quart per oil change. chevy said it was "normal" on the older LS series motors. probably the same for ours but ive never researched or cared about it. somehow the EPA allows chevy motors to burn oil and its not a problem?

Yep. I dont know what their standard is nowadays, but back in the LS heyday GM's allowable tolerance was a quart every 1300 miles was acceptable

I've heard oil consumption as a problem on pretty much every generation of GM small block V8 I have ever had, and seen it happen on my previous Vortecs and TBI 350.

Until the Ecotec. emoji2369.png But with my examples of the Ecotec 5.3, I use them nearly exclusively for highway cruising. I think that's what's keeping it alive and not burning any measurable amount of oil. I don't romp it unnecessarily, but I'll wind it to 3500 at least twice a day if not three times, then it lives at about 1800.

I have a 2018 6.2 and stomp on it at least once everytime i drive and don.t use a drop of oil between changes. I also redlined it with 15 miles on the motor need to seat those rings.

Some of the older guys that have been wrenching awhile will tell you a quart per oil change is normal since they pulled the lead out of the fuel. I still prefer mine to not burn any.

Explain why you let it get so low.

I have a  2014 Silverado with a 5.3, I was thinking that GM had this issue taken care of but apparently not. I just turned 40k on the truck I bought it with a little over 20. I'm on the 3rd oil change and haven't had any oil issues yet. Sunday my oil level warning came on, I checked the oil and was about 2qts low. I'm have around 3,000 miles on the last oil change and the oil life is showing 50%. I have been driving it quite lazily, does the oil consumption issue become worse the more the truck is in V4 mode? Will a range program fix this if so?

My 2014 5.3 Silverado is in the dealer at this time because of the premature oil consumption. Service rep called and said factory approved replacing pistons and rings. Truck has 80,000. Got luck with extended warranty.  Can't understand how an engine this new has such serious problems

Today I got a warning on the dash telling me that my oil level was low. This happened to me a couple times before. It seems to happen once I have around 30% oil life left. I had read that it could be caused by the cylinder deactivation so I bought that Range device. I put it on with my last oil change but it hasn't seemed to have helped. The dip stick is almost dry when I check the oil. I haven't seen any leaks. Any ideas?

How many miles on this truck?

Oil filter? Oil used? OCI length?

How is it used? Load, speed, trip length average.

All stock? If not...….
