Coil Pack wierdness

Recommended Posts

Just joined the forum and this is my first post, looking for some help!

I have a year 2000, 2500 GMC Sierra, it's been running rough/stalling while at a stop, but wasn't throwing any codes until earlier this week, mis-fire on cylinder 7. When I bought the truck a couple of years ago it ran like crap and I replaced the plugs and wires, so I assumed it was the coil pack. After switching the coil pack from cylinder 7 to 1 (and 1 to 7), the mis-fire moved to cylinder 1.

Confirming the coil pack was the issue I made note if it was round or squire (it was round), did my research (also saying they are round), found some on Amazon (half price of the local store, not particularly in a hurry) with good reviews, bought them.

Today I wen to take all the coil packs off anticipating the Amazon delivery, and discovered what I can only think is a Frankenstein contraption. The driver side has round coil packs, the passenger has square!

Help me out here, did someone just do a junk-yard swap or something? I can't imagine this is factory? Do I buy four square packs and just replace them as is? It looks like the mounting bar is different, can I buy one and use all round?

Thanks!

Update:

I just replaced the four round coil packs on the drivers side (one was bad per the previous post) and it runs fine (better than since I've bought it), but don't have the parts for the "square" side.

Thoughts?
