Truck turning off after 10 minutes when parked

Recommended Posts

I have a Service dog I leave in my truck sometimes and need the truck to stay running for the AC to be on, it runs about 10 minutes and shuts off or about 45 if you leave the Fob in the truck. Don’t tell me your fixes I have tried them all. I went to the dealer and they don’t have the tools to fix it and TAC will not give it to them. I worked through the GMC assistance center a total waste of time all they did was call the dealer then tell me what the dealer had already told me. I finally Emailed the Executive VP of GM, his support team got back to me, they are much better but still can’t help. They say they would have to install the Police tune to fix it and I am not Police so they won’t do it. If  this is a problem for you and want it fixed here is the GM Executive VP’s email address maybe if they get an enough emails they will offer a fix. It would also let you use the outlet in the bed for more than ten minutes if you needed to.

So is this something that's stated anywhere in the manual? If not, then I believe they shouldn't be allowed to do this.

I've yet to use my bed outlet but I would be very irritated if I thought my outlet was bad when all it is, is that GM doesn't allow it to operate for more than 10 minutes.

I bet you could call lemon law on the truck. They can't fix it and it doesn't work for what you want it to and im guessing that in the manual or anything given to us, as a customer, are we informed about this.

Per owners manual page 228:

With RKE in truck, it will idle for an hour in park.

With RKE outside truck, it will idle for 1/2 hour.

Upsetting they won't let you download the police package software.

Stupid lawyers.

Something that can be fixed the new HP Tuners tune??? I know they cracked the ECM, not sure what customization changes you can make yet though.  Not to mention it's around $1,900 for the ECM swap and software, and probably close to another $1000 if you did want a custom tune, and it'll void the sh*t out of your warranty... so there's that.

Unfortunately those numbers are off by quite a bit, you get about 10 minutes if you don’t leave the remote in the truck unless you have a full tank of gas and the truck is perfectly level then you might get 15. I left the remote in the truck all summer and never got more than 45 minutes. I never even got a good answer no one ever spoke to an actual engineer. I have HP tuners from my old truck and my Pontiac hopefully that will end up the solution. I personally need to keep my dog cool, I can take him into a restaurant but the grocery stores here get very upset, they are afraid he will pee in the corn flakes I guess. For everyone that outlet in the back works great for 10 minutes then you have to restart the truck.

Set parking brake in either Neutral or Park think works.  What the farmers tell me they do.  They leave them running while they are on their other equipment out in the fields.  Can't remember if they said they leave FOB in vehicle or not.  Good luck

Thank you

If in Neutral with parking brake set and key fob inside it actually makes sense that it would not cut itself off.  Old farmers are geniuses LOL. Somebody needs to test and verify that though,  mountain boy are you still around to try that? This could really help the tailgaters out to!!!!!!!!!

That's a good question. I know some vehicles have buttons for the brake. Some take it off automatically, although I'd hope that's only when put in gear. Has to be a way on those new fangled things to set the brake in neutral. What's the manual say?
