Backup Camera 2019 vs 2016

Recommended Posts

Just leased a new 2019 1500 double cab RST after turning in a 2016 regular cab WT, love the new truck so far but my biggest issue is the backup camera. my 2016 was very clear at night and during the sunny days, now i don’t know if it’s the led taillights but wether it’s the sun during day or backup lights at night but i can’t see anything with the glare, jus wondering if anyone else has this problem

I have a 2016 and a 2019 and while the 2016 is pretty good, I can see the difference in the 2019.  The 2019 has a HD camera and is just a little crisper.  I also have 1000 lumen LED backup light bulbs in both trucks and that makes a huge difference at night over the incandescent bulbs.

Only the LTZ and HC come stock with an HD camera and display. The HD camera and the HD touchscreen on the HD radio display available  in the Convenience II make the difference. I live in an area with no street lighting an no problem backing out using the stock halogen bulbs; no need to chance LED resistance mismatch causing parasitic battery drain after shutdown. The larger white reverse lenses in the taillights wrap around the sides of the vehicle also broadcast more light over the whole field of vision for the wide angle backup camera, previous gen taillight reverse lenses only broadcast light to the rear.

I have a 2020 AT4 with the technology package.

If it makes you feel better, the best camera on the entire truck is the one in the rear view mirror.

The rest although "HD" have fairly poor quality.

I paid $58,000 for not much better than you have...

That said, I am still happy with it but I do not understand why my iphone has 4k video feed and my truck is barely able to display the tires 5 feet away with clear picture.

There is no parasitic current draw from an LED bulb installed in the backup socket.  Unless the vehicle is in reverse or has just been shut off, there is an open condition.  No bulb is going to draw any current when an open condition exists.
