Cool Idea

Saw a 2018 high country today with LED’s by the running boards. I’m thinking of doing this on my trail boss after seeing it. Any idea what he used as a power source? They seemed to go on and off when he hit the brakes, but I would want mine to be constant.

I think I would put them on a separate circuit and mount a switch somewhere in the truck.

On a side note I have had a couple of buddies that have the one's that go under the tailgate,  both bought the expensive one's, sorry I don't remember the name brand but I do remember they each spent around $300 on them,  the point being they didn't last more than about a year before some of the LED's quit working and they look like crap when that happens...

Yikes, I’ve seen a lot of trucks on the road where the LEDs go out on the tailgate bars too. I wasn’t sure if they were older style lights or not, but I keep seeing everyone now on the internet/ instagram getting the OPT7 tailgate bar and they look great. I think it is $79 or something but I didn’t know if they had perfected the issue of some of the LED’s going out or not, cuz it does look crappy when that happens

I've had the opt7 redline on 2 trucks now, first one has been on for 2 years and still going strong no dead led's, just put one on my 19 Silverado and no issues. In my experience using dielectric grease for all connections and making sure they're all sealed up well has always worked for me keeping aftermarket lighting working well.

How do these wire up?  Do they plug into the trailer lighting or splice in elsewhere?

They use a 4 pin trailer plug, with an extra wire for the reverse lights. I used the Putco adapter, that plugs into the tail light harness near the spare tire, that way its all plug and play no splicing necessary, except for the reverse wire from light bar into reverse wire on Putco harness. On the '19-20 you can't use the trailer plug or Curt trailer harness adapter, or else the trailering software and parking sensors go haywire.

Thank you!  From my understanding of your comments this "Putco adapter" is all I need to tap into the brake light circuit once I find the tail light harness.  I hate to get too off topic but I am trying to find a way to tap into the brake light circuit in order to run the 3rd brake light on the sport bar/ roll bar.  The dealer gave me this bar when I bought the truck and I want to put it on for a while to see if I like it or hate it.  No drilling is required other than the plastic bed rail covers since the metal is pre-drilled.  The only thing stopping me is the wiring.  Can you provide any additional advice on where to tap into the brake light circuit? 

My dealer is quoting $250 to disconnect the third brake light and wire up the one on the bar they "gave" me.  I am wondering if this additional service sell was planned.  I would rather figure it out and do it myself in case I choose to remove the bar later and reverse the lighting.
