New front dif acuator

Recommended Posts

My acuator in the front dif. went bad. I bought a replacement at the dealer. The dealer said gm upgraded to a better acuator. The new one is different than the old one an came with a harness adapter. I understand the two leads that just plug into the old harness and the acuator, but where does the 3 foot long brown wire go? The dealer was no help. BTW this is on a 95 Tahoe.

Thanks

DAN

Dan,

I had the same replacement on my truck. The new actautor is all electric instead of thermal. I think the long wire is a power lead, but I would call another dealer or a good shop for sure. Any differential shop (or even a transmission shop) should be pretty aware of the actuator and how the new GM one wires up.

I just replaced mine with the upgrade. The long brown wire routes over the transmission and splices in between the next to the last and the last connector on the transfer case. ( on the drivers side). It was a brown wire that I had to splice into. Kinda hard to find since all the wires were brown...(dirt)

I found that it was much easier to unplug the connectors and let the harness fall down to work on it.

Hope that helps.

Jack

dadejak is exactly right! find the brown wire just above your transfer case and splice into it. i had the same problem when replacing mine, all the wires looked brown so i had to clean them off then look again with a bright light to find the right one.
