Brake System Failure-dash lit up like Christmas tree

Recommended Posts

Hi y’all!

I am new here and this is my first post.

We bought a new 2019 Silverado on Monday night. Last night we were leaving Target and at startup I got multiple warnings. Brake system failure. Service trailer system. As well as a couple others I can’t remember. The check engine, ABS, traction control, and parking brake light were all lit up.

I immediately called the dealership and managed to get through to them right before they closed. They sent a wrecker to pick up the truck and brought a loaner vehicle to us. Major props to the dealership for getting us squared away as we live an hour away from where we were shopping and it was raining buckets outside.

So while we waited for the wrecker and the loaner to get there I decided to see if there truly was a problem or just faulty warning. I backed up from the parking space and sure enough, there was no resistance on the brake pedal. I mashed down as hard as I could and it did not stop. We coasted

to a stop. I left it hanging out in the middle of the aisle because I wasn’t going to try to pull back forward and hit the concrete pillar.

I googled the problem last night and that is how I found y’all. Seems others have had an identical issue. Sure enough they call this morning and fixed it the same way others here said their problem was fixed, reprogramming.

So my dilemma is our baby was in the truck with us. And we were getting in the truck to drive the 60 miles home. If this had happened a few minutes later it could have ended so tragically. Has anyone had this happen, had it fixed, and it happen again?

The dealership is willing to trade our truck out since they haven’t sent off the paperwork. But they don’t have any more like ours. We do love our options and the look of ours over the ones that are in the same price point and we already added accessories to it. But if it has happened a second time after being repaired I don’t want this truck.

so, if this happened to you did it happen a second time?

thanks!

sorry for the rambling

Hasn't happened to me on my new truck. But I can tell you right now - if your dealership is willing to trade it in at no loss to you - DO IT. I wouldn't even think twice. That brake failure scares me to death. Praying mine doesn't have it.

Don't worry about them not having what you have (trim level, options, etc.) They can get whatever you want. Just go on the Chevy website and check inventory, keep upping the distance until you find a model with the features you want. The dealer can get it from another dealer.
