What To Do When GM Says "Oh well"

Recommended Posts

So I am wondering what I can do (or what some of you would do) when you have an issue with your truck and GM (or the dealer) tells you "Oh well, we can't duplicate it, sucks to be you."

I have a brand new 14 day old 2019 Silverado 1500. I took it in because my DIC went haywire. I have photographic and video proof of the problems. (I'll attach some of the pictures.) The dealer was unable to duplicate it and said there's nothing they can do. I disagree. I understand not being able to duplicate an issue. But with photographic and video proof, wouldn't you think they would have at least replaced the computers that control the DIC? What do I do from here?

TPM said PSI was 244PSI

Progress bar was stuck at top

Odometer stopped registering mileage

Trip odometer registered roughly double mileage

Cruise control indicated 74 but would hold truck at 80

Brake pad life zero

MPG 6MPG

They did have a fix for the brake pad life, but all the other issues they had no idea.

As for my truck experiences, most glitches have been caused by battery terminal cables (primarily the negative) not being crimped tight enough or other issues with it. Try unplugging the battery cables for about 10 minutes, reinstall them.

From reading your service center report, I doesn't look like they told you to pound sand.  They couldn't duplicate the condition, and they told you to monitor it.  Bring it in if it presents itself again.

That's frustrating, I know.   I have been there in the past.

But I don't think you can expect them to fire up the parts cannon at the problem.

GM most likely wouldn't approve that.

I suspect that they will need the truck while it is presenting the issue so they can interface with GM tech ops if necessary.

Yeah good call. I certainly don't want some 18 year old tearing apart my dashboard to replace a PC if it doesn't need it either.

I hope you get it sorted...there is so much electronic magic in these trucks nowadays that it can be frustrating when it goes bad.

I am addicted to the tech, don't get me wrong...but stuff is bound to go bad.

I am not saying we should just accept that either.  I expect better.

I am currently waiting on a new radio.  Everything works EXCEPT it won't read contact lists off of phones.

So I have no access to my phonebook through the vehicle...hard to do "hands free" calling that way.

After a couple of trips to dealer, GM said put a new radio in it.

Don't know when one will be available.

You are in a "gray" area right now.

Opening a claim would probably not accomplish a lot at this point, because of only one attempt to fix the truck.

Complaining to GM about the dealership may not be useful either, but it is an option.

Think you are going to have to have to wait for the "Gremlins" to come back and stay for the dealer to track them down.

Or as stated before, check with another dealer to see if they encountered the problem with another truck.

Hope it is sorted out quickly, so you can enjoy your new truck!

I had an interesting electrical problem with a vehicle. Passing hard it would shut down to limp mode. First time it almost was a problem. I looked out for it and tried it again too see if it was a fluke. No light tripped. Turn the key off for a few minutes all was well. The dealer checked couldn’t duplicate. I could but it took speeding to about 80 to hit the gear and RPMs to do it. At warranty’s end I traded it in. A year later the service tec called me to inform me they were coming to pick up my car. I traded it in on a different brand, they must have just punched it just the vin. Assuming I was still the owner. I ask what was the problem. No electrical power. Hummm, I guess they can duplicate now.

I agree with the gray area post.  You unfortunately need to wait and see if it happens again and gets worse or it stops.  I was going to say its because you live in MD (we just escaped from MD).

I’ve had a year of issues dealing with gm on a brand new 2019 3500. Keep taking it back and get videos of the issues. Paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork! From my experience I would say Don’t get fooled and think the Case managers or case numbers will help you.

Yeah, this T1 is my 3rd new GM truck in 35yrs of driving them.

First truck spit out the actuator shaft through the transaxle after I told the dealer 5-6 times it was doing funky things and occasionally banging. That was the first year of the platform and my truck was one of the first 5K out of the plant and I must have been one of the first ones to use it hard off road (I was 19 when I took delivery). It eventually got sorted and I Baja'd the hell out of the Tercel they gave me as a loaner.?

Second truck, 2001 Silverado Z71LT would randomly die right after starting it. Could not replicate problem and that went on for four months.

I finally got so pissed off one day I just started it and mashed my foot to the floor and wound it out in neutral.

It immediately died and I thought I broke it, but it restarted and stayed running.

To this day (It currently sits in my yard with a rotted frame) it has never acted up like that again.

Carbs and points never caused these problems. Instead you had to have it tuned up twice a year and it wouldn't want to start when it was below 30*. That and the ride and handling sucked, tires wore out fast, shocks lasted all of one year......

Yeah, were all spoiled with these new trucks.

Heck yeah we are spoiled.  I'll be the first to admit.

I drove my '69 all through college in the 1990's.

The only option it had was...well...it didn't have any options.

And nothing broke.  Because there was nothing to break.
