Trailer camera issues

Recommended Posts

Well, my camera worked okay for few trips. Then, it started disconnecting again. I ended up bending in the center conductor ring close toward the middle and it would work again for a few trips.

The end result was the fact that during a turn, the cable pulled apart from the end connector. I reassembled it and made sure everything was tight. Hooked it back up and got nothing. Guess it’s a lost cause and quite honestly, I’m tired of messing with the poorly designed setup. Let’s not forget how some are switching the plugs from the bumper to the bed for 5th wheel and gooseneck applications.

The Furrion Vision S cameras are a little more, but they work well and are wireless. Probably should have gone that route from the start, but I liked the idea of viewing the camera on the infotainment screen.

Has anyone fixed this issue? I installed the trailer camera last September. It worked fine on the first trip. I put the trailer away for the winter. Every time I have used it this year it has froze after about 10 minutes and then gone black. When I turn the truck off and let the head unit restart it works again. I had it in the dealership last week. Of course they thought they had it fixed by unplugging the camera and plugging it back in. When I test drove it on the highway at 70 mph it froze.

I don't think it is a problem with the camera or the connections. It seems like it is the head unit or video module.

LeCure - Did replacing the video module fix the problem?

Hoping someone still checks this thread.  I have a 2021 2500HD High Country and a 2020 40’ Montana 5th wheel. Last spring bought the GM camera after wireless issues with Furrion camera. Mounted the camera high and ran the cable down the ladder and underneath through pvc conduit. Fished it through to the hitch near the 7 pin cable. Want to move the camera jack from the bumper to the bed but haven’t yet because of the problem. Everything works great until it doesn’t. After several months, when towing for 3-4 hours video display goes haywire then black. After resting for a while will start and work fine for 3-4 hours again. Have had it to the dealer 3 times. 1st time did some type of reprogramming - no change. 2nd time replaced video processing module - no change. 3rd time they tried to recreate and couldn’t. Now they want my trailer with my truck.  Anyone with any new info?

Had a similar thing happen, but not a Chevy camera.  We used PVC as a conduit to protect a video cable from wind and UV.  It created some weird Video issues.

Make sure the PVC you are using is grounded.  The wind can generate static on the PVC pipe, that really screws with video.  A few metal clamps around the PVC to the frame, with a screw through the clamp to the inside of the PCV so you get surface static off inside and out should do it.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra and I am also experiencing invisible camera issues. It worked fine the first 6 months. I took to the dealer in the spring of 21 because every time I connected the trailer the system did not recognize the electric brakes even though the electric brakes functioned as it is supposed to. The dealer reflashed the unit and the error message went away but after the reflash I am always having to recalibrate the camera every time the trailer is hooked up or if the truck is cycled off for refuel or pit stop. The most recent dealer visit they replace the video processing control module PN 84833405. It worked for 3 days and stopped working. It is now back at the dealer for the fifth time.
