Single X-Pipe vs Double X-Pipe Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

Almost 2 years ago I Installed a Set of Speed Engineering Long Tube Headers on my Silverado along with a Custom Full 3" Dual exhaust that included 2 X-Pipes and 2 Magnaflow Mufflers.

I got the idea of welding 2 x-pipes together after discovering that Corsa and other brands offer such a set up for the Corvettes and Mustangs, and wanted to make a similar lower budget approach to it.

I really have enjoyed the set up, which gave the truck a rather unique sound. Since a Truck exhaust is OffSet to the passenger side, it made the dual exhaust pipes coming from the collectors to be unequal length, thus making the truck rather choppy at certain throttle positions/RPMs (Same principle that makes Subarus sound different too).

To be honest, I kind of got bored after this time and decided to spice things up by removing one of the X-Pipes for a more "Normal" Exhaust Set-Up. Maybe the sound would be better? louder? Different? . I donated the removed X-Pipe to a friend who has an SS Camaro.

The result I found is that the exhaust tone of my truck is now smoother, because the exhaust pipes are more equal length. Its still very loud under throttle, just not that choppy. The sound profile changed, but I still love it either way.

The truck is rather civilized at idle and driving around town with any of the exhaust set ups, and it only gets louder on acceleration.

I will leave the 2 videos here, they may help some of you who are still deciding on what set up you would like. The First is with the Double X-Pipe and the second with Only 1 X-Pipe. Everything else on the truck is pretty much the same:
