Scare me away or have me forever

Recommended Posts

Bit misleading in the title, own an 09 LTZ Duramax for the last two years. Was a truck I picked up for the sole purposes of working the heck out of it and now done with it. Have been a Dodge guy until then since 1998, last truck being a 2014 6.7 Dually.

My hard working the truck is done, (hauling gravel, traveling rough tight roads), and it is time for a nicer truck. Started out looking at the Dodge and there is plenty there I like but got into a 2019 GMC 2500 SLE Duramax today and I do like it. Not to mention with the financing and price I save roughly 10K on a similar optioned Dodge truck. Yes 10K matters to me...couple thousand maybe I would let the heart make the decision  but after that I like to keep my money.

First question, any reason not to buy the new Duramax? I haul very little but need the truck for when I do. Be maybe 1000 miles a year of work. The rest will be 80 highway and 20 city with some loads in the back. Yes a gas will do but drove both and I am a confirmed Diesel guy.

Second question, price on the truck I am getting is around $51,600 US. It is an SLE SRW with 6.6 box, has the 10 way power heated seats, snow plow prep, Allison 6 speed, off-road suspension pkg, spray in bed liner, trailering mirrors, upgraded tires, and roof markers as options. Whats your thoughts on the price?

I've got a '19 DRW with a Duramax and love it.  It is an awesome engine in an awesome truck.  The 2020s with the 10 speed look really awesome, but you'll pay a big premium for a 2020 over '19 right now.   Frankly, it is tough to find a really nice 1/2 ton for 50k; that is a lot of truck for the money and it will hold its value well.   I don't see any real downside to your choice.
