Thinking about buying a used GM buyback need some feedback

Recommended Posts

Has anyone read the Carfax?

1) It’s an early 2019...can’t figure the exact build date but it’s somewhere around or before November...that means it’s certainly in the red zone for leaking window and every other bug imaginable.

2)Transmission replaced! Holy cow.

Saying nothing of the branded title and huge resale hit you will take...I don’t think there is even a question...no way in hell.

The thing has already been through the ringer and had so much stuff removed and replaced. I buy new to avoid having a Humpty Dumpty truck, and to get something I can trust. I’d drop down a trim level and buy new before I ever consider this lemon.

Found a Sky Blue 2019 Sierra Denali on Autotrader. I called up the dealership to inquire about the truck was told it was a GM buyback and the original owner reported it doing random engine stalls.
They are asking $50,595 said they'll go down to $49,995 it has about 7k miles and has ultimate package original MSRP was about $68k. Allegedly they have fixed it and has been unable to replicate the issue and is testing it out by putting about 500 additional miles also using i as a demo . my question is if that's a good price or around what price should i be looking at and is buying a buyback wise? Will it be covered if the problem persist. The title and carfax will be titled as a buyback
salesman also said sometimes in his area people will use a tactic like a fault to get out of a vehicle because of the high monthly cost? not sure and it may not have anything wrong at all.

let me kno guys and thanks in advanced

my 2018 (9K miles) I picked up a couple months ago was eligible for a 120,000 mile warranty for $20/mo..

I'd bite if you want to spend that on a vehicle and it's eligible for the 100K+ warranty.. (GM warranty, not 3rd party, $50 deductible on ANY warranty repair, covers everything but wiper blades and brake pads)

On a buy back, GM takes possession of the truck.

The dealer then buys it from an auction, much like a used car, so I do not think they have to disclose what they paid for it.

My 16 sat at my dealership for 6 weeks or so before GM came and picked it up.

My dealership tracked it to a local auction, bought it there, and then resold it on their lot.

They sold it pretty quick, they knew the history, so it was easy for them to spin it back to me being an Ahole customer.

Truck sold itself, it was a great looking rig.

From the carfax report: ALERT! - Severe problems were reported by a state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This vehicle does not qualify for the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee.

With that information, I am going to go against the general consensus and say "that is the truck to buy!"   IF you like driving loaner vehicles all the time,  are not worried at all about being stranded, money lost at resale or if it is wrecked means nothing, and you enjoy coming to a forum to complain about your truck being junk.

Instrument cluster was replaced, repaired, reprogrammed and has a new transmission, and then a new Engine/powertrain computer/module reprogrammed.  It's been through 3 different dealers and a buy back in that time.  And it's an extremely average deal even on a non-branded title truck..

My wife had a branded title vehicle once, and it was worth 25-50% of a non branded title.

So no, I would not buy that truck.

Wow Thanks guys that's a truck bed filled with lemon and a limes. Wow Just imagine some unsuspecting buyer wont even know the extent of repairs that was done and the dealer probably wont disclose all of that just simply state its a buyback, not that it would have been me that why the F I came here.?

Also, your auto insurance company may not insure it, and a lemon may not have the same warranty as a non lemon. A guy at work tried to buy a 2018 f150 buyback with the freezing door lock issue. Went to close the deal and his insurance company told him they wouldn't insure a branded vehicle.

As someone that has had to lemon law a truck, I would NEVER buy a lemon branded vehicle or buyback. You save some money but the nightmare and hassle of owning it will not be worth it. And from my experience with dealership service departments, I wouldn't trust that they fixed the issue.

Run away. Like other said it is a marked truck and hypothetically everything is good on it now which I doubt it is. It is like a salvaged title vehicles it will be a royal pita when time comes to sell it or trade it in. Most dealer in my area will not look at it. And the salesman is just being a salesman. There is no way in hell that this tactic will work for anyone who want to get out of their vehicle payment. Its hard enough to get the dealer to fix the damn thing let alone take it back, yeah right.

I bought an salvage car once for 1/2 it original price. A 94 Z-28 in 1995. I paid cash no warranty. I was only able to put liability insurance on it. My wife put 60K miles on it. My son put 80K on it. It was my toy for 3 years. The rebuilder was a mediocre painter, the car was bulletproof. I would do it again at 1/2 price.

You said it. half price old car. At half price on the truck he is looking at he will be looking at 30k tops not 50.

That’s still high. You’ll be able to buy an SLE Texas Edition in my area for about 35K as a leftover soon.
