Service at a different dealership

Recommended Posts

Servicing a vehicle for another dealer is frowned upon by the service managers.  They have enough trouble keeping their own customers happy because they are so busy!!  Buy at your servicing dealer if you can.  I am sure they could work out a swap.

Are we talking exclusively about warranty work? regular maintenance? repairs out of warranty?

I have only bought 1 brand new vehicle in my life (the current truck). For that one, it goes to its home dealership for warranty work. Anything else I have ever needed (That I can't do myself) I take to a local mechanic who charges less and has a good reputation. Any GM dealer would take care of warranty work for you, just make an appointment. Who cares where you purchased it. The only difference is if you are using an extended warranty- then the price goes up if you take it to a different dealer.

I always have to make an appointment to get work done. I drop it off, they fix it. There is no worrying about priority or where it was purchased.

No. Does it matter? do they choose who to service first by the age of the truck?

I have had to take my truck in for 3 or 4 recalls, so I have a bit of experience dealing with them.

Times are different with these new trucks, having a dealer that backs you up is crucial. many people on here are without their new trucks for weeks at a time.

but they will choose who to put priority to when it comes to having loaners and scheduling service.

I don't know if you just walk in your dealer and ask for service or what. I need to call ahead for an appointment to get anything done. I come when I'm supposed to and they take care of it.

One time they kept it overnight and gave me a new loaner to drive home.

Maybe if you just walk in and they tell you they are booked, you feel like they are pushing you back because you didn't plan ahead.

It sounds like you have a very negative opinion of the dealers. Something bad must have happened to you. My dealer's service dept has treated me fairly and complete work properly every time I've been there. Maybe you should find a new one that treats you well.

I don't just walk in an expect service haha. Clearly others get what I am saying and agree but you just don't get it.

OK, you think all dealers mistreat customers who come in for service if they didn't buy a new truck there within 12 months.

Maybe it depends where you live. Around here I've had generally OK experiences everywhere I've taken a vehicle for service. I would recommend the OP to check out their local dealer and decide for them self.

Your signature says you drive a 1016. But OK, sorry for offering a positive opinion.

I've used non-selling dealers for warranty work many times.  Only difference has been the availability of a loaner, but they never came out and said one wasn't available because I didn't buy it there.  Even my selling dealer offered a crappy old Oldsmobile as a loaner one time.
