Disable multi pro tailgate with a hitch on?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a 2020 Denali HD with the multipro and was a concern for us as well since we typically left a hitch in the receiver for our previous '16 Sierra HD.

It seems super difficult to activate the multipro by accident, and since you'd be standing behind the truck you'd notice if the hitch was in, and should aid as a reminder not to open it further.

I also want to get into the mindset to pull the hitch out when not using as well, this truck is a little longer than previous generations which already was super long for normal parking spots around town.

Funny situation, not sure if it applies to the multipro.   I had to have my son sit in the middle seat of a single cab truck we rented for a few days while camping.   For the first day I couldnt figure out why our tailgate was randomly down.  I saw it down while driving around and saw it randomly drop while waiting in the fast food line.    Turned out my son was kicking the drop button with his foot.  ?

with that said, run all worse case scenarios to see if it can drop by accident.

Ive posted a thread on this issue, there is a hitch that you can buy that is 6 inch drop angled and will work with multi pro tailgate.  One is Curt, other is Ultratow.  I've had it in my truck for around a month now and use my tailgate and tailgate step all the time.

Hi all,

Thanks for the reply. Would be great to have some manual override when a hitch is in. Fortunately, my weight distribution hitch for my trailer has a long enough run out that the hitch ball won’t hit the actual paint or facade of the tailgate. Tested it after posting this.

The tailgate comes to a rest on the plastic trim piece when it’s fully extended to step mode. It seems to be stopping just short of fully extended. I’m going to mount a small soft pad to the top of the hitch. The tailgate can rest on that. I do have a long drop hitch from my old lifted 2014 that I can use for other types of towing. As pointed out in this thread, the run on that style hitch would clear.

Are you saying the multipro will NOT hit this hitch?

It appears that most anything sticking out of the receiver will contact the tailgate. GM designs a killer tailgate and then makes it so easy to damage.

Thanks for the detailed pictures, very cool. Are you finding the 6 inch drop working OK for you for many trailers?  I wonder if a 3 or 4 inch drop would hit? Six seems like a big drop.

Nope my utility trailer sits damned near perfectly level while hauling my Mule Pro or mowers.  I will say it is fun to watch the reactions when I just walk up and drop the tailgate with that hitch.

Have to say, those reviews look TOTALLY fake (on tailgatefix).  All of them talk about it as if it were a shipping product, yet it's not available for purchase.

Banks, you wouldn't happen to have a business relationship with that site, would you?

We can ship you one whenever you are ready. Just need your Name and address. We Launched that site to let people know it was coming and to get on our list so we could ship when we had a complete stock. I have installed demos on trucks including my own 2019 Denali so we could get some feedback before a full launch.

Yes, I am Co-Owner.

Thanks, Jim
