Highway speed vibration on 2020?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2020 2500 Denali Duramax with 2,000kms . From Day 1 I switched the tires to the Nitto ridge grapplers 35x12.5r20 so I did not set a stock benchmark for the ride quality

As a side note I just traded in my 2019 2500 duramax denali with the same tires but a bit smaller 295/60r20 and the truck drove just perfect!  I have 2 more 3500 DRW in the WT model, one a 2017 and the other a 2017. I am mentioning this because I think I have a good feel for how the trucks should be expected to feel on the road

The 2020 truck had a shakey steering wheel at many different speed both slow and highway along with vibrations and just way too much road feed back in my opinion not to mention that dreaded steering column clunk. It also just does not feel solid like the 19 and previous did.

I went back to the tire installer for a re balance and then I went to the dealership to have the alignment checked to try and start trouble shooting the problem. After that it was still not fixed so the tire guy actually put a brand new set of ridge grapplers on convinced that there must have been a bad tire... It helped a bit but the shake was still there.

I went to the dealership again and he agreed to put the truck back on the alignment rack and check over all steering parts to make sure everything looked "good". He went as far as swapping my wheels with another new stock 2020 to see if it was the tires creating the issue and it showed the issue was still there. After all of that he found the bulletin to re program the digital steering. It has helped a bit but the steering is still less than ideal with a terrible feel and a slight shake still.

Does anyone else still have this problem and has anyone found any solution yet. I can not believe we are moving backwards with these kinds of things. It is driving me absolutely crazy and there dealership does not know what to do.

You could have your dealer clear the calibration offsets in the steering gear.   There has been a few cases were this has helped.  There are going to add this step to the bulletin.

Nitto Trail Grappler 35/12.5/20 with hostile 20x10...RF balanced Twice with all 4 tires under 11.

taking to dealer tomorrow morning for the service bulletin attached.  I will let you know if it helps.

How did you make out at the dealer

COMPLETELY RESOLVED!!!

Spent half the day with an awesome Discount tire store manager today and truck rides as smooth as my 2018...if not better.

here is how it worked:

* Road force balanced all 4 under 13

* Switched to a Dynamic  balance As he static balanced the 1st 2 times.

* Replaced one of the brand new Ridge grappler tires as it had a high spot in the road force process

These things as well as the calibration update (see my post above) last week have this dialed in 100%

I was losing faith but I can tell those of you that have the issue to stay with it because it is possible to have these trucks smooth as butter all the way up to the 98MPH shutoff.

Hope this helps someone else the way you all helped me out.
