Quality aftermarket taillights

Hi,

I`m thinking about buying some aftermarket taillights for my 2014 silverado. But as we have cold winters and a very rainy autmn and spring, I want some taillights that won`t turn into an aquarium after 1 week. I`ve read some bad reviews about the cheaper taillights. And because I live in switzerland, it would be very expensive to ship the tails back to the US for warranty if they break.

I like a more "OEM" look, just with LED. How about some Red Morimoto XB Taillights? They`re very expensive, but are they also well built?

Check out theretrofitsource.com. I have the the smoked version and absolutely love them. Had a small issue of a hyperflash when the voltage dropped below 13. Called up the guys are TRS and they sent me updated load resistors and haven’t had a problem since.

Those lights have a 10yr warranty(at least when I purchased them) and all the load resistors are built into the housing and don’t have to be placed externally like some other brands.

Definitely well worth the money IMO

I've been back and forth on these for the past month or so.. haven't pulled the trigger yet. I originally wanted to get OEM LTZ LED taillights, but they're pretty expensive and require some wiring work with resistors and such..

I think the Morimoto's are one of the better looking aftermarket lights out right now, just not sure how they will look in person on my truck. I was never a huge fan of the aftermarket taillight look on trucks.. reminds of those riced out civics you used to see in high school parking lots.

So i`ve ordered the morimoto Taillights.

Now i`ve got two problems.

First is that these taillights hyperflash when I use the turn signal. But when I add a normal lightbulb to the harness, they work again. So that has something to do with the resistors in the taillights.

And the other issue is that when I brake and the stopsignal lights up, the taillights switch off for a second and turn back on. That is something that probably won't be roadlegal here.

On the left is the stock taillight, on the right the morimoto

And that is the issue with the hyperflash:

This might be wrong but with the hyperflash, did you try it with the truck running or with the engine off? The reason I ask is that 99kustoms mentioned the 13 volt hyperflash issue and without the engine running, the voltage present will probably be under 13 volts.

Yeah, was when engine running. The Hyperflash would be solvable with adding another resistor. (Which shouldn't be necessary as it was advertised as "Plug and Play"...)

But the lights switching off after breaking is the thing that bothers me most

I sent Morimoto an E-Mail about the taillights. They will send me new resistors. Hopefully they will solve the issues with hyperflash and taillights shutting off.

Your truck probably came with halogen taillight bulbs, the LED's don't draw enough voltage so the truck thinks you have a burnt out signal light. My old dually did this when I put in LED bulbs so I added a resistor to solve it. Morimoto is top quality stuff and you wont have an issue once you wire in the resistors.

I fitted the resistors morimoto sent me. But unfortunately the hyperflash went from the left to the right. And they say the issue with the lights switching off will not be solved at all. I am really disappointed as I extra bought "high quality taillights" and not some cheap chinese stuff. Now I`ve got 500$ taillights sitting in my garage and driving around with the stock ones. To all the people with non Morimoto aftermarket LED taillights, are yours  also switching off after braking?
