Leveling kits? If so, let's see them.

Recommended Posts

Just keys. I have been reading about the ball joint issue. I’ll have to find a case of ball joint failure to look at. Without any major off-roading I can’t see the ball joints wearing all that premature. I had a 2.5” kit on my last truck and ball joints lasted 85000 miles and were still on the truck when I traded it in. Never had any problems. Truck before that was a 09 f250 with leveling kit. Had 197k on the clock and changed em once. I’m not saying these won’t fail... I just think it’s a little over stated. I would like to see one with issues though so I can get a good look at the issue. I’m not against adding the uca but I need to justify their necessity.

Any kit that does not relocate the upper ball joint has the potential to over travel ball joint.  The maximum ball joint angle is increased for the 2020 trucks over previous gen knowing these trucks get modified and the failure is ugly.

You can't fix the rebound issue without modifying the frame.  The rebound service stop contacts the uca so you don't over travel ball joints in service.

Installed the Readylift 3/2 kit today, I tried holding out for BDS to release a kit and would really love to do a coilover conversion but who knows how close they are on that.

I looked hard at the rough country 3/1 kit, it’s nice the RC kit includes longer shocks and UCA’s, but I’ll eventually end up putting Icons on and would love their billet UCA’s is they make one for our trucks.

I needed something in order to fit my wheels/tires :)
Super happy with the stance, it’s exactly what I was hoping for in that regard.

I have low offset wheels and wide tires and with little trimming I don’t have any rubbing!! Trimmed a little in the front and also some of the front mud flaps, I didn’t want to remove them completely and am happy with how it turned out.

@FirstAscent what’s your wheel and tire specs. Truck looks great by the way! So your hoping to add uca later?

Oops, I meant to post that haha, and thank you!

Wheels are 22x10, -18

Tires are a 325/50R22, which are basically like a 35x13

Yeah I’ll for sure add a UCA later. Hopefully the icons if they can make one. If they don’t I’ll do something else.

FirstAscent thanks! Send a pic from front or back when you can so we can see that offset.

Here ya go!

Btw, I know it’s not a proper lift kit but I’m definitely looking forward to a slightly better upgrade. I didn’t expect the best ride quality ever (you get what you pay for) but I didn’t expect it to be so limited either.

I drove the truck today over these two speed bumps I always drive over, it is very noticeable that there is limited travel in the front suspension now. It almost felt as though the rebound/upward travel was barely there.

I’m curious how the rough country kits are since they include a new UCA. If the suspension is maxing out due to the UCA angle then I could see that helping.

@FirstAscent first off offset is real nice. Tire size looks great too. I saw one with 37 and didn’t look right without a proper lift. Well don’t there.

great feedback about this lift. Haven’t heard the same negativity about the rc so assuming it’s not a prob. However the rl looks better/taller

@MTU Alum think those ucas would improve that problem that @FirstAscent speaks of?

UCAs will only help the ride if they are modified in a way that they don't engage the rebound service stop on the frame as quickly as the production arms do.

I haven't looked at the service stop on the frame to determine if its possible to cut off.  If you can remove it, you probably need to buy an aftermarket shock with travels adjusted for your lift.  In addition, if you ever remove the shock you would need to support the front corner to prevent over travelling the front suspension.

My truck was only 1 and 1/4” higher in the rear than the front, stock. I kept mine pretty simple, I dialed in an inch on the front. That took out most of the rake. But didn’t put it dead level.

I like my tread blocks flush with the fender and not sticking beyond. I went with a 20x9 +12 wheel and a 295/65/20 tire. That tire measures 35.3” tall. Which puts it right in between a 35 and 37. Tires labeled 35, typically measure in mid 34” range and tires labeled 37 typically measure in mid 36” range.

I have zero rub. Off road at full lock, I would expect some fender liner rub. But have not encountered it yet.

That's the height that I am looking for. Plus I have airbags in the rear. You just adjusted the stock keys? And did you need to have it aligned after lifting? Hopefully the ride is the same? Thanks,

@EIKON  that’s a Chevy. Maybe why no rub since fender well shaped different? What tire did you go with?

What up.  Question for ya, is the front cranked all the way or can you dial it back a bit?  Curious because I have this kit being installed Friday and hoping maybe it would help with the ride?

Dig that color combo by the way.
