Intermittent locked in park.

Recommended Posts

It's a brand new truck and likely to have some initial hiccups.  Get it back to the dealership.  If they can't replicate the problem, you'll at least be on record. Some members will report sad stories about their dealership but I don't recall having to make more than a second complaint about an issue.  Does your steering wheel also remain locked when this problem occurs?

The steering wheel is very tight on my T1, and has locked when parked with wheels anything but straight, or on an incline that puts tension on it.

are you positive this is not the issue? It takes quite the effort to relieve the tension and get out of park

So far no firm fix yet. However it was discovered that if you extend the telescoping steering wheel is when it locks in park. If you shorten it the shifter works as it should. Still looking for the permanent fix.

That's interesting.  I haven't had this issue and I have my wheel as low and extended as possible.

Keep us posted!

Has anyone had their new truck randomly refuse to come out of park?

Park brake off and running. After many restarts, applying and removing park break and five to ten minutes it will start working properly.

Is your 2020 a 10 speed or 6 speed?

So are we saying that the 2020 HD's require pressing the brake to get them out of park (like 1500's have been for some time)?

EDIT: should have said the ...2020HD diesel...

Yes you need to step on the brake to remove from park. As was my 2016 HD. However my brothers was malfunctioning and wouldn’t come out regardless. Again it was a loose wire connection in the steering column.

With  the gasser or with the diesel?

Interesting.

Perhaps a new feature with the 10 speed?

My 18 L5P doesn't require foot on the brake.  '11 LML didn't either.

My 2016 2500 LML required the brake to be pressed to remove from park.  Owners manual indicates that’s the design.
