1988 7.4l timing procedure issue

Recommended Posts

I dropped a 1988 big block in my 1986 Blazer and went thru the timing chain. Put all back together as always. Tried to fire it up and backfire thru carb. So figured 180 out. Pulled the dot towards each other and re dropped the distributor in and set all up. Still getting same.... I am a seasoned mechanic getting my butt kicked. Help. Thanks.

If you lined the dots up on the chain that leaves the distributor out or wires on wrong plugs. That is if it was running before the timing change procedure. I’m seasoned too but I had to look up which was low side and high side before charging my ac. Didn’t trust myself. Look on the internet for firing order, remember to point the rotor at number one and drop the distributor. Go around the distributor make sure the plug wires are right. It will all on the net.
