Recall - Vacuum Pump May Decrease Power Brake Assist

I thought I read somewhere that a custom diablew tune is tied to the original backup on the programer. If one flashes back to stock (original backup) and takes it to the dealer who then flashes a different version of the stock ECM or TCM tune the programer will see this new, unrecognized stock tune and not allow the custom tune to upload to the truck. I don’t know if I’m explaining it correctly as I’m not very knowledgeable with this. I may have to email Lew about this.

I don’t think that is the case as even Lew says always flash back to stock when going to the dealer in case they change anything then reupload the custom tune later. I’ve never once seen him say if the dealer flashes a new tune then his custom tune won’t work afterwards.

I don’t know Lews process but I believe he builds off the canned tune that he has you install, that’s why you send him the “last tune written”. I think he wants the “backup” or stock tune just for comparison sake.

No sorry about confusing message. What you say is right. Go to stock tune and when you leave switch back. No issues if and only if the flash wasn't pcm or tcm based. Then it is different then the settings the custom tune file had in it. For people with custom shop tunes where say a efi live or HPT is used they do not own a personal device to switch back and forth so if it is changed truck may not run. And it would need to be towed to the performance shop to reload the tune.
This is why I say buy the device it is the KEYS to the trucks computer now or at least save your files stock and performance to a thumb drive so you have options.

I asked Black Bear about this , my 2015 is on the list for the update.

BBP  told me to load the stock file , after receipt of the software update then record a read file , send it in to BBP and they add the update to my custom tune.

Yes as I said but if you are say supercharged, turbo, head or cams, bigger fuel, tran ior stall. Then how do you drive out of a dealership that just wiped out the tune that makes the truck run?

In that case replace the pump your self if it goes bad. I wouldn’t take a truck with those mods to the dealer anyway.

At my dealer many like that come in. Supercharged lifted trucks. But there are better options. Like own tune device or there is a gm software device that you can by on amazon and then download the gm file. Upload it yourself in the garage.
I take my device and laptop with me but my dealer knows well what I have and ask what I want then I still get service and warranty.

I’ve followed your post. You’re younger and way advanced from me with this new technology. This old guy is happy with his old 92. I quit keeping up when I bought my 94 Impala and Z-28. I became a gentleman hot rodder until I bought my 92.

I just had mine done a few weeks ago.  Was going out on me, especially at slower speeds.  It was under warranty and took less than a day to do.  They had to fix my driver side power window, too.  Had all kinds of things messed up, lol.  The switch messed up my AMP steps, so after they got the window switch connector fixed, all was good.  The AC condenser also went out the day before taking it in for the brake job.  Easy fix for them.  Bill was like $2300 or something.. thank goodness for warranties.

So who has had the brake software update? Did you truck improve or get worse?

I have already read here where it made braking worse.

I just got my 2017 Silverado reflashed today, knowing that my low speed braking was already severely degraded due to vacuum pump not outputting as it should.  The low speed repeated braking isn't worse but you can definitely feel/hear the ABS firing off after the vac pressure gets out of tolerance and the pedal gets hard.  Almost feels like a icy road with ABS hitting intermittently as you hit areas of traction.  I am sure if you prolong the fix and rely on this bandaid it could cause early ABS pump failure.

Bottom Line:  The reflash makes low speed braking BETTER (as in less likely to hit something / no brakes at all) with a failing pump/hard pedal scenario.  It's probably why they decided to do this fix on all - in the event of a failure you will be left with "a little" better brakes which means they save face and money.  Hopefully buying you enough time to stop before having a low speed collision.   TBD how it feels after I replace my pump tomorrow.
