I did a bit of searching the cause could be a fouled injector with carbon build up

good luck with it though it seems it might be a reoccurring issue in the future

you use cheapest crap you can find correct?

Not following your last question. Cheapest crap what?

duramax= diesel

most people use the cheapest diesel  they can get..  put 4-5 bottles of techron-D  see if clears it up

Obviously diesel..What he’s saying is how do you know what quality of diesel he’s using?  And how can you tell by pulling into the station?  Most stations I’ve seen are all pretty close in pricing.

cause he is getting carbon build up on the injectors  that is the cause of the code

But it's not like they are 50 different semi local places that fueling stations can get the bulk diesel from, so I don't see how the fuel he gets will be drastically different.

Around here if you cared about the "freshest" fuel, it would be from the truck stop that has 10-12 fueling stations that are always in use from the semi's. Think of the fuel being bought on a daily bases if the avg trucker bought 100-150 gallons at a time, then multiply that by a several hundred trucks per day everyday.

what i mean is a place with a good reputation  like Mobil or chevron  shell   etc..  mom and pop stations might have old contaminated fuel... it might be fine in an emergency but not daily use...  that is why i'll buy  several bottles of Techron additive  just in case i have to fill up at a mom and pop station.....on a trip*

* not on a rental because i don't care about that car

i will put the cheapest gas i can find..

I will report back once I get it to the dealer. It has not been diagnosed as a fuel problem or carbon on injectors only emission malfunction. Could be many things.

Just so bg1988 doesn’t need to guess and make assumptions on what I use I can report I use Costco Kirkland fuel which is a Top Tier fuel supplier and recommend by GMC. It’s cost is very competitive.

costco gets it left over batches of fuel (meaning it can be 'any brand' fuel ) how do you think it's  bargain basement pricing ?(they buy the left overs that were not put into other gas stations)

normally it's 'seconds  quality' it's about as good as using a 10 blended oil change..  never know what you are getting at the pump...

based on google results it's the DEF bad quality  or weak fuel injector

if it keeps happening  just lemon law it... and get another one

  • 1 month later...

We purchased a 2020 Silverado 3500HD, took to dealer with the p20ee code.  The tech reprogrammed the ECM, and downloaded some new software for a tech bulletin.  Drove approx 150miles with 5th wheel camper, and check engine light came on again.  Stopped by dealer, and was told GM still working on this error to call them back in a couple of weeks.  I'll be calling them tomorrow.  Truck now has 1,200 miles.

Hopefully, a fix is in the works.
