Full Synthetic is NOT 100% Synthetic, it’s a marketing gimmick! Amsoil is real 100% Synthetic motor oil!

Recommended Posts

I use to offer FREE Red Line oil in this context to Harley riders. Let me do a three hole fill on you TC88 and if you can't FEEL the difference by the end of the block I'll eat the cost and refill for free with anything you like. I NEVER had a guy come back and ask for anything else. Of course if he liked it, he paid me. I like getting paid. I did have one fella so hung up on his Mobil 1 he refused to even try it.

That's how impressed I was with it first time I used it. I was even more impressed when I noted how much lower my oil temperatures were. I've never used any oil that gives a lower bulk oil temperature in an air cooled motor than Red Line and yes I've put AMSOIL to the test in that regard. It came in second of a dozen or so oils I tired.

Initially in the early 90s if memory serves there weren’t synthetic oils out there. Anyway in my pulling trucks one tons pulling heavy. There was a noticeable drop in temperature and an uptick in fuel mileage. The same temperature wise in our clearing equipment. I noticed my brother selling Redline now along with Amsoil. This is more of a convenience for consumers. It’s definitely not an high profit maker.

Ok, AMSoil is good.  So is Royal Purple.  But GM's own Dexos-rated oil and Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil are just as good or better for 99% of the people out there, they are cheaper, and the Shell oil is readily available at WalMart nationwide; so you don't have to pay dealer or parts store prices.

If you're not entering pulling contests or races, it is more important for Joe/Jill Public to change their oil at the OLM-indicated intervals (or sooner!) with a quality oil and filter than it is to spend 10,000 hours studying oil videos on YouTube.  After all, even mediocre engine oil is manufactured with better quality control than GM's AFM lifters.

Pardon my presumptuousness but I'm going to rewrite a sentence:

But GM's own Dexos-rated oil and Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil are "GOOD ENOUGH" for 99% of the people out there,...….

I'm sure that is what you actually meant and you're correct in THAT statement. There is no version of reality wherein a Group III oil will out perform a PAO/Ester blend when pushed to the extreme. But as you note, Joe and Jill Public don't fit that specific context. That said I will offer this. I drive allot and in doing so I observe others. 1500 Owners pulling insane (RV) loads in 4th gear at 70 mph in mid summer. That sir is a pulling contest that will not fit the context of "Good Enough" unless you are into 500 mile OCI's.

I know, I know it sounds ticky-tac but others of lesser experience than yourself might take that statement as written as gospel even though I know you know better.  I broke a nail typing that!

Well, not so much as waiting for them to include a hat but with the extra points you build up you can add a hat to the order and use those points to pay for the hat.  :)

I've had customers have as much as $35 in points that they used towards their orders.

Also if that stuff is the best ever, why doesn't Nascar or top fuel drag cars run it?

I'll be just fine running Mobil 1

This guy said it's pretty good stuff.

I was listening to WBBM radio (Chicago) the other day after a Cubs game. They've been the team station forever. They are talking about the pitching title for this year and mention of course John Lester.

His rant starts John is third from the bottom of the list. OUCH!!

Then he says there are only 30 pitchers eligible for the title. Okay so he's 27 on a list of 30. Lots of MLB pitchers, right.

He explains that to be on this list you have to have pitched 180 full innings as a STARTER. Well that cuts out most pitchers right there.

He proceeds to say that if you move the filter to 120 innings the list doubles. Alright so now Mr. Lester has moved from near dead last to a bit above mid pack.

Including pitching stats from all MLB pitchers Lester is in the top 5%!

This is how you market your product. You move the filters to paint the best result to suit your narrative.

Take away the filters (hype) and Lester is a pretty darn good pitcher based on what it should be based on. Reality.

These ASTM, SAE and ILSAC PERFORANCE tests are filters. They don't paint a realistic picture of anything but a particular narrative. Cherry pick your opponents and I'm a pretty good boxer even at 65. Sign that guy in the wheel chair for my next fight. :) Include onlyh those who are inferior in your testing adn you look like sunshine on a cloudy day.

What I'm interested in IS Chemistry. Physics. Atoms, molecules, things that can not lie and don't have agendas. No filters. ASTM physical property test interest me. Apples to apples like viscosity test at various temperatures. Lubricity would be good if they would publish it. you get the idea.

You can't learn anything from the results of a rigged game. Forget the hype. What does the chemistry say? Says the food chain is still in tact.

Red Line is in many TF cars. Rails and Floppers. Shock Proof Heavy keeps the diff in one piece. 70W Nitro in the crankcases.

Many Prostock cars and bikes use Red Line 0W or 5W straight weight racing oils.

NASCAR you bet.

That's funny.  Last year's NASCAR Cup Champion drove a yellow car that said PENNZOIL all over it.  Guess that means Pennzoil is the best, if you believe all that marketing hype crap.  Which I don't.  In my old age, I go by the product, not by the pusher.

Actually I don't buy into the marketing hype. Harvick is just another schmuck to me.

I've used Mobil 1 since Harvick was in first grade.
