6.2l new muffler or delete

looking to get a bit more growl out of my 6.2l at4 ,it is a canadian truck i think it has 2 resinators ,any canucks delete or added a flowmaster ,thanks

well i bit the bullet and had the muffler cut off and the down stream flapper as that is what i found online to do ,well i am going back way to noisy for me pretty loud ,ordered a flowmaster 40 ,will report back

Installed a flowmaster 40 left out downstream flapper .drone is really bad still.will put flapper back in and report back

Flowmasters like the 40 series aren't the best for stopping drone because they are a chambered muffler.

 

You'd want a non chambered flow thru design to help. I'd suggest a magnaflow or dynomax type muffler. Or install a mini resonator before or after the current flowmaster you have on there. Vibrant makes really nice ultra quiet resonators to remove rasp/drone but they do cost a couple bucks.

I just swapped my GMPP muffler for a dynomax 17517 unit and it’s a nice upgrade.

Louder than the gmpp unit but no drone and not unbearably loud all the time. The wife even said she thought it sounded nice.

update removed flowmaster installed magnaflow without rear flapper sounds great no drone

I cut both flappers out and installed a borla S type muffler. Nice growl. No drone.

@NorthernAT4 Where did you find the S-Type muffler for the 6.2? I’ve found the whole system, but was wanting to try just the muffler out and no other changes.

I ordered it through tdot performance in Canada. They had to order it from Borla. 3” in 3” out and my muffler shop fit it up and took out the flappers

Thanks for the reply! I’m wondering if it has to be direct to dealer/retailer or something along those lines because the only thing I can find is the “Polyphonic Harmonizer” to add to the atak exhaust system to mellow it out, and when I look at the whole system it’s not the same as the actual muffler. I’ll have to call around to some local shops, thank you!

Which magnaflow did you go with? Did you leave the front flapper? Do you have a video?

I am really just looking for a little louder on start up and when you get on the gas.  I don't really want to hear it on the highway.

I’m going for a Magnaflow 11229, cutting off downstream flapper and leaving upstream as well as resonators on my 6.2. Will post a video when it’s done. Should be Wednesday or Thursday of this week (2/5-2/6)
