Just got off the phone with the exhaust shop that is local to me, owner states he has done several of these trucks, and most people go with the 12589 and cut the flappers out.

So in my mind it is either 11229 with flappers or 12589 without them.

I got the muffler put on yesterday. Exhaust shop (that I've used for years) said they've done multiple 6.2 T1s, He had played around with all combos of mufflers and flappers on the exhaust in the past. We cut off the downstream flapper, left the upstream flapper in place and welded in the muffler. It's pretty damn loud. On cruise at 70mph when the DFM kicks in you can hear the slightest drone, but nothing that's annoying or even noticeable. I'm super happy with the result. I essentially got a cat back system for $125 ($100 for muffler, $25 to weld in). I'll post a sound clip a little bit later

That would be great man, that's one of the combos I was thinking of doing myself. When you say "it's pretty damn loud", how loud are we talking?  Like when you start it up you're disturbing the peace or just loud in comparison to how it was stock?

You'll see how loud when I post the clip. Not obnoxious/disturbing the peace or anything but it's much louder than my straight pipe Jeep at cold crank. It's extremely deep, to the point where I can feel the engine rumble from inside my house when my truck is in the driveway. But nothing that's going to wake people up if I crank it at night. I highly recommend this setup, couldn't be more pleased

Seems like it sounds nice but not over the top.......excited to get mine done!

It's exactly what I was going for. The video doesn't do it justice, it's loud but super low rumble so it isn't obnoxious. Good luck with yours, let me know how it goes!

Well.......the exhaust shop squeezed me in this morning.

I told them to leave the upstream flapper, cut out the downstream, and replace the stock muffler with the 11229.  This somehow got lost in translation and they cut out the muffler plus both flappers and installed the 11229.  I agreed to test it out since it was already done.  When the truck drops into DFM it sounds horrible!  Putting the truck in Sport mode made it a little bit better, but not by much.  I have an appointment on Friday morning (my original appointment) for them to get the flappers reinstalled.

Sucks because the truck sounds great on accel and idle.

Why didn’t they recommend the 12909 satin or 14909 polished with 3.5 inlet and 3.5 outlet which magnaflow recommends to match the 3.5 factory exhaust on the 6.2. I have on my 17, no flappers and no drone sounds awesome.

Drone isn't the issue.  DFM makes it sound like a tractor/helicopter/stupid.

Just got back from the exhaust shop, had one of the flappers re-installed.

It is a little quieter but the one flapper mitigated a great deal of the undesirable sounds the truck was making without them.  I'm happy with this setup and would recommend to anyone looking at doing something similar.

Magnaflow 11229 Muffler

Single upstream flapper
