Backup camera comes on when ever it wants in drive.

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a new Silverado 2500HD LTZ. After backing up and then going forward, the backup camera sometimes will stay on, or the system will work normally and then all of a sudden the camera will turn on again. The only mods to the truck are LED cargo and reverse lights.  Any suggestions before I let the dealer at it?  Thanks, Andy

Do you have a front camera or just rear?

Did you do the cargo/reverse diode mod?  Or did you only change the bulbs over?

I'd start by undoing your cargo/reverse work.  Run that way for a while, to see if it was or was not your bulbs, somehow.

My 2016 does the same thing, once I start driving forward the camera Is still on momentarily and the radio never goes back to the main screen. I figured its just a characteristic of the truck, if you find out otherwise by taking it to the dealer post your findings please.

Where can I adjust the camera delay, and what is the diode mod?

The attached picture is from my '15, all forward facing white on with HIGHs (BRN10 to BRN18), all rear facing white on with Reverse (BRN26 to PNK26), and Puddle lights on with doors open (GRY1 to GRY8).  My '18 comes with the puddle light coming on with the doors open.  My '15, when I did the diode mods, the puddle lights would even come on with I turned the interior lights on.

(Striped end of the diode is in the second pins identified above)

  • 5 months later...

I had the same problem with my 18' and found there was corrosion in the left rear tail light harness plug beside the spare tire under the truck. Took it to the dealer and they cleaned it up and put some di electric grease in there and the problem went away until for about a year and now its back this morning.

Did OP ever find out what it was causing the problem ?
