Torque Converter for 8L90

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Just received my new Torque Converter from Circle D. Have to say they are some of the nicest and most knowledgeable people I have dealt with so far on my build. Walked me through every option needed. Custom built and arrived 15 days after order. Thanks to @1SLOW1500 for the recommendation. Wish I had a clear bell housing...

She looks beautiful! Curious, why did you go with an aftermarket TC? Did you have shutter/clunk issues? Is this TC known to not have any issues? Installing yourself? Sorry for all the questions, just wonder if this is the end all be all fix for the 8L90 issues ?

I know the TC is the weak point in the transmission besides heat and tuning which I have already addressed. When full on throttle I feel power loss/slip between 1st and 2nd which might be in my mind. I am doing it more for preventative maintenance than anything. I never had a shutter problem and had the flush done with Mobil 1 just because my dealer wanted to do it when I asked about changing the fluid... When talking with the wealth of knowledge on boosted vehicles @1SLOW1500 I figured I could maybe delay buying a transmission... I am going to do it myself this weekend.

Nice, didn't look at your signature before I submitted my first reply. Looks like you're driving a truck that's pretty far from stock, lol. Would explain the TC upgrade. You've got a nice set up, good luck with the install.

I've had good luck with Circle D in the past.  What stall?

Nice truck by the way.

I went with the 2800. That’s what they recommended... Thanks!

So I installed it this weekend at my house. Initial impressions all positive. Don’t feel much lag or pedal feel from stock. Definitely feels stronger pulling. Spins tires easier. I like it.

Nice I have the same tool box in red. Snap on got me back in the day. Cost a fortune but nice stuff.

I know it. SnapOn makes the best tools and boxes IMO. Seems like I never would’ve paid him off and every week he had something I had to have. Now that I have them I’m glad I did. Things to pass on to my kids.

Let us know after some driving what you think?  This is for the 8L90 correct?

Yes this is for the 8L90. I have put about 200 miles on it so far and love it. A little harsh in the lower gears but that's most likely from the slip tables being zeroed in the TCM tune. Feels much stronger overall. Worth the money!

What are your plans with the old torque converter?  CircleD would restall stock torque converters.  I had one for my old TBSS.

I don't have any plans for it. Its in the back of my truck and I keep forgetting its there, LOL
