FYI Beware of GM customer service *updated*

Recommended Posts

What I have learned through this whole process, which is going to be one of the reasons that I leave the GM family, is that if a dealer tech says one thing and a GM engineer (sight unseen) disagrees, the engineer still wins out. No less than 3 times did my dealer state that the harness in my truck needed to be replaced, and no less than 3 times were they overrode and told to repair what is there.

My settlement and legal fees cost them a hell of a lot more than their harness and labor...

100% Originally the dealer wanted to spend more time on Diag to confirm it was a lifter issue. But GM engineers just stamped it with the year old bulletin and basically said they cant do anything unit there is a fix. This has been a bulletin for almost a year. Clearly they have no plan to actually fix these lifter problem. They are just going to wait until the truck has major issues before they do anything.  I am almost certain this misfire has something to do with the failing lifter and or lifters.

This was created last October and they still don't have a fix? I've heard of people getting the lifters replaced. I don't get why I am shunned out.  I can only imagine how GM is going to have the dealer message the work order to NOT tie into the ticking issue.

Did you have it towed in? Blinking CEL means you are dumping raw fuel into the convertor, which can cause a whole host of other issues.

Having it towed in and having a service record created will help if you eventually have to go down the road of lemon lawing it. It also costs GM to pay for the tow.

There's no room to be passive with them - screwing over their customer base appears to be the latest M.O.

spoke with the dealer this morning. Truck needs #5 and #7 injectors. They are only replacing 2 at this point plus the fuel rail. They say this issue has nothing to do with the knocking noise on cold start witch makes sense. Another issue to add to the list on this truck.  I am  at the point where I am nervous to drive it because it will leave me stranded.

What a nightmare. This makes me want to NEVER buy a new GM product. In fact, up until a few minutes ago, I was really wanting a new Silverado. This is awful.

I hope you get out with all your money back!

Any update, OP?

Just playing the waiting game now. ITs out of my hands.

I did call the dealer and ask to have the noise looked at again because its lasting longer then the ten minute cut off per the bulletin.  The noise has been getting worse but they wont even look at the truck anymore. Its sad really. Plus now the truck idles like crap after they replaced the injectors.

I had the loud tick noise once, but not really after a cold start. Immediately after an oil and filter change and restart. Thought it might have something to do with that crappy PF63E with plastic spring valve so spun on another and topped off - no more tick on restart, or 1500 miles since.

Mines almost goes away for a short period of time after and oil change. The motor also is much quieter too. After about 1000 miles it all starts coming back.

I hear a similar sound, a ticking sound, and my truck only has like 1,700 miles on it...  I figure it is metal heating and expanding... No codes, no issues, seems to run just fine.

I have had the truck only a few weeks and paid for an extended "Platinum" warranty through the dealer that is supposed to cover all sorts of stuff that the GM warranty might not, or might try to avoid.

If it becomes a problem, I feel like they will take care of me.  If they think it is "normal", that's ok... if the motor falls apart because they didn't take it seriously, its gonna be on them.

is your dealer just a schmuck?  I feel like the right dealer makes all the difference...
