94 fuel relay/???? problem

Recommended Posts

My sons 94 Z71 1500 with 5.7 has me stumped. Sometimes when you come to a stop and the clutch is depressed the engine dies. It will restart sometimes, but not every time. Last week it died and would not restart at all. I checked for spark and it was good. I then tapped the fuel pump relay and it started. The next day it died again and would'nt start again. I put on a new relay and it was cured.

4 days later the same problem.....So I put on another new relay and it fired right up. Drove it home (15 miles) and it died once, but fired right back up. When I got home I put in a new Carter fuel pump. Took it for a test drive and all was fine.

My son drove it to school this morning and it died again. It restarted and was fine the rest of the way to school.

The thing only dies coming down to idle. I can't figure out what else to look for. All the wires look good and it has a new pump and relay. (well I did run the new relay with the old pump for 15 miles) I'm gonna put one more relay in it today, but I don't know what else to do. I put on a new throttle position indicator about 6 months ago.

Thanks for any help.

How bout the oil sending unit? I was just informed that power to the fuel pump went through it. If the sending unit relay is weak then would'nt that be why it dies when It goes to Idle. I'm buyng a sender and putting it in. Wish me luck!!!!!
