New engine <30k miles

Recommended Posts

I'm from the heavier oil crowd and also use M1. IMO Unless your living in the arctic circle 0w20 to me makes no sense. At least a 5w30 to support the spinning parts loads oil pressure is your friend. I'm not an oil expert but have read the lighter oils also can be creating more PCV gunk going into the intake and coking the valves. Agree or disagree, To me a catch can is just something positive I can do to keep the situation from occurring on my engine.

I used to use 20W50 years ago but today the tolerances are much tighter requiring very thin 0W20, its what’s required for our engines as within our manuals. Amsoil is a pure 100% synthetic oil and not a blend like Mobil1 Full Synthetic. Amsoil Signature Series is Pure 100% synthetic which molecularly bonds to the metal unlike full synthetic. IMO, 100% synthetic oil doesn’t burn as quickly as conventional or full synthetic oils that’ll leave higher amounts of carbon. 5w30 versus 0w20 is a toss up and will draw a lot of criticism from both sides and sometimes, especially when it’s really hot in Texas I wonder myself but I just put what’s required for my engine, 0w20 and have actually noticed a smoother running engine using Amsoil Signature Series for the past year now. Good luck to OP and hope it all works out :)

Most likely started with Injectors...Which were fine until they started fouling as with GDI the rest is downhill from there and snowballs into this.  Sucks, GDI's are great GM's are excellent but they do need to be handled more attentively on the maintenance side of things.  Keep em clean boys/girls she will treat ya good!
