Want to install DVD player, second screen, & more.

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to win a snakeeyes standard system (http://www.snakeeyes-ss.com) at an avalanche get together and I already want to add to it.

What I would like to do is put the 5" screen that is on the drivers side visor (came with snakeeyes system) on the passenger visor and get a 7" widescreen LCD screen for the drivers side visor.

Then, I want to put a DVD player in the center console. I also would like to put some RCA jacks into the dash to I can easily hook up and remove my PS2.

I have been looking around at different DVD players and have found a few good ones that will work.

What I have had problems finding is a good switcher or TV Tuner switcher combo that will allow me to do this.

Here are two that I found:

This one is just a switcher w/ a remote:

This one is a TV tuner and it looks like it will do switching as well, but I'm not 100% sure it's what will work for me:

Another one that I found:

Can someone shed a little light on this for me? I am relatively new to all of this.

For the audio JP Customs is setting me up with a GM8-AUX unit that will let me hook right into the factory stereo.

Thanks for any help.

Just to break it down, what I really need help with is:

What type of switcher should I go with?

Where do I run all the power for these items from?

Who makes a good 7" widescreen LCD monitor that would fit on the sunvisor?

I plan on installing the DVD player in the center console and the switcher underneath the back seat or possibly under the center console if I can fit it in there.

I have one of these in my Lexus LX470:

Boss AV Switcher

It has 4 inputs and 4 outputs which operate indepently. You can send any input to any output or the same input to all outputs which gives you great flexibility. The unit was small enought to fit in my center console (I had to whack the mounting tabs off) along with 2 dvd players. The remote is RF based which means you don't need line of sight for it to work. Very simple operation 4 buttons correspond to the 4 outputs. Each time you press a button it advances to the next input. Very easy to add plugs for a PS2. I bought a video wall plate at Radio Shack which a standard RCA cable will hook up to and took the female/female connectors out of the plate and mounted them in the center console. As far as power goes, I powered mine off a switched lead that I tapped into at the fuse box and ran to a relay-powered from the battery. This provides power for the switcher, monitors & dvd players in my setup. I'll post a picture of the input jack in my Lexus when I get home. I don't have any recommendations on visor monitors because I haven't done any yet.
