Seems this got question got skipped over......

Curious, once those changes are made are they permanent in regards to any “updates” the dealer might do if you take your truck in for service? Or would a dealer flash/update overwrite the WAMS changes and put everything back to original?

Hey Rog,

Sorry about that! I think this may have been answered in the other thread that kind of was going in parallel so my apologies! At any rate K2 development has been frozen for some time as all resources are obviously on T1's now. That said short of a safety recall that involves the BCM it would be highly unlikely unless you are getting the BCM physically replaced that it would be overwritten. If something like that were to happen you'd simply provide a copy of the work order and we'd redo your unit at no charge just like the rest of our services.

The good news is we've only had to do that a handful of times over thousands of different modules and platforms so you might have better odds winning the lottery from our perspective :)

Hay Chris, I wold like to send my BCM in but your web site says they are out of stock and not letting me place an order. Is that a Type O?

I was looking into the same thing and would like to know as well.

I don't mean to offer to speak for Chris but I will offer in some recent e-mail exchanges with Chris that this service is in high demand and they have a pretty significant backlog.  My guess is he is just trying to work through that backlog which is the reason purchase of that service is presently unvailable.

This is correct and I'm very sorry for the delayed reply! Since this service is especially time critical for the majority of our customers, to keep the processing time in line with what we advertise we have stopped taking these for a brief moment while we clear out our backlog of orders; the site will be updated when this is completed :)

can you activate the GPS without an onstar subscription?

You don't need OnStar for the GPS to function.  Mine works and I would never pay for OnStar.  Pointless as Waze and Google maps (among others) are far superior to the factory crap, so Android Auto / CarPlay and use a real map.

my phone will not work in the desert or deep in the woods or top of the mountains, hence i like to figure out how to activate the GPS with out a sub

GPS on your phone works fine without cell service.  Download offline maps in Google maps, done.

Again, you DO NOT NEED ONSTAR TO HAVE FACTORY GPS.  I have factory GPS + no OnStar subscription.  My bet is you don't have factory GPS...

i do not need it but i want it, truck has a GPS module on the roof, and I want to activate it.

FOR THE LAST TIME:  OnStar DOES NOT GIVE YOU FACTORY NAVIGATION.  Period, end of story. You have to upgrade your HMI unit to a Nav unit (should be IO6, and you should currently have IO5).  This is a hardware change and requires nothing to do with OnStar.  Get it?

well ok, how do i turn it on, I have the upgraded radio..?

You don't "turn it on."  Yours was not sold with GPS.  GM solds the top units with/without GPS.  You could get GPS as a stand-alone option on lower models and forced into it on higher models (which is the only reason I have GPS in mine).  You have to upgrade your HMI unit.  I'm guessing around $600-700 to do so.
