If I didn't have the need for an HD truck with a diesel, I'm keeping the 2015, hands down. I've owned HD trucks in the past and didn't use them for heavy hauling/towing much and the maintenance cost and fuel cost weren't things I could justify. I'm very happy with my 1500, plus the interior is WAYYYY better in the K2.

I dont do a lot of towing but i do tow a rollback trailer with either a chevelle or s10 on it a few times a year a couple hundred miles each way usually. I have done it with my 1500 but it absolutely hates doing it. I do agree the interior in the newer ones is a whole lot better! I had a 2006 2500 hd that I sold back when diesel was around $5 per gallon and i still kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it! Its one of those things that i dont really need but nice to have when i do.

I wouldn't count a car or s-10 on a flatbed as a heavy load. Stick with the 1/2 ton and enjoy your ride the rest of the year. Even if you have 3.08 gears, your truck can handle it, just may be a bit slower up to freeway speed.

100%. Mine hauled my 90 ECSB on an all-steel 18ft car hauler and did just fine.

K2 2500HD with the 6.O. Problem solved best of both worlds.

If your dead set on a DirtyMax if it’s in your budget and you can swing the difference I’d consider a new carryover one with less options as here in the Midwest anyway the stealerships are full of new 2019 Dmaxs that aren’t moving even with 12k worth of discounts and 2020 fuglies showing up weekly. At some point the blowouts will commence.

If the Diesel didn't have the stupid DPF/DEF then I'd go for it.  I'm thinking about getting a 2006 which will be a GMT-800, but with the Allison 6-Speed.  First year of the 6-Speed, but didn't have DPF or DEF.

I spent my entire working life driving all kinds of pickups. Drive the lightest one that will do the job. Especially if there’s no weight in the back. Hell I don’t daily any pickup now. I’m surprised so many put up with the hassle and expense.

GMT900s with Duramax can be more easily modified to get rid of DPF/DEF.  2007 LBZ (GMT800) is my personal favorite, check out the differences.

It's getting harder and harder to do so.  Sadly the EPA is cracking down big time on tuners and delete kit manufacturers.  Also if you live in an area that requires emissions testing/equipment inspection you don't want to delete unless you are good at putting things back on very year or two in time for inspection.
