Can we talk about the omission of Adaptive Cruise Control

Recommended Posts

Adaptive cruise has been available on 1500 suv for several years (18 and 19 at least)

Adaptive cruise arrives on the 1500's for 2020 (2nd year of updated truck)

KSG    NEW!  Adaptive Cruise Control - Camera
1 - Included and only available with (PDJ) Driver Alert Package II.

Available on SLT, AT4 and Denali

Perhaps HD pickups will get it on 2021 model.

Perhaps they will.  It just seems ridiculous that they wouldn’t have this ready to go now.

I've been shopping the new GM 3500 SRW HD trucks and like others I'm surprised and disappointed that Adaptive Cruise is not an option for these trucks. I've had a Benz GL 450 with Adaptive Cruise and I don't want another vehicle without it, especially with all the interstate cruising I do pulling a fifth wheel. I've test driven the 2020 GMC 3500HD Denali, Chevy LTZ and 2019 Ford F350 Platinum and the GM trucks have a lot to like with the trailer tech to match the Ford plus the 10 speed trans, heads up display, auto 4WD, camera mirror and the payload capacity I need (335# more than F350). Unfortunately I can't see buying a $78-80000 truck without the Adaptive Cruise so I'll just have to wait till GM includes it. With the forward braking and distance indicator already included it's going to be added. They pulled the same dumb GM stuff with the 1500, not including it in 2019 but adding it for 2020. It's hard to believe Ford has had this on their HD trucks since '17 and GM still leaves it off a 2020 model.

So I mentioned this in one of the 2020 HD threads already, but am I the only one that's very disappointed that Adaptive Cruise isn't an option on the new trucks? All the hardware is there, even following distance indicator, but GM didn't include full adaptive cruise control, or better yet, GM's Super Cruise?

I am currently in a 2018 F150, after having my 2016 F150 bought back, and my 18 having many of the same issues, and the need to move on from half tons for my travel trailer, I am ready to switch over to Chevy, but I am really disappointed, as I swore my next truck was going to have this feature.

I know in the Silverado 1500, it wasn't available for 2019, but will be for 2020, I'm hoping the HD will have it for 2021.

I'm a big fan of adaptive cruise.  Agree with the OP on this topic, a bit annoyed that it's not available.  Every vehicle we have has it, except for current GMC 3500 and soon to arrive 2020 3500 Denali.  Even our Jeep Wrangler has adaptive.  Will drive the 2020 until adaptive is released and trade - problem solved.

Yes, a bit annoying, but GM will get there eventually.  That could be a new marketing slogan.  "We get there, eventually."

i've had adaptive cruise, and frankly i can live without it. first of all i never use cruise when on the highway with other cars. they always cut in front of you because ACC leaves a gap that invites people to cut in front.

Adaptive cruise is one of those love/hate relationships.

So is regular cruise....

But I've learned to predict traffic and use the +/- buttons to adjust cruise set speed to reduce the number of times I need to take over using the pedals.

I'll be interested in adaptive....but I don't expect it to work on it's own in all situations.

I really haven't found an upside to adaptive cruise because it takes away from the awareness of driving the vehicle.  However if you want to set it and forget it, its by far the best feature you can get.  Me personally, if I set my cruise to 75... its gonna stay 75 right up until I plow into the person in front of me.  That being said, my wife had a highlander with adaptive cruise and I also had a Subaru outback with adaptive cruise.  The systems themselves perform relatively well, but yes if your not paying attention you will essentially be going as slow as the person in front of you the entire time.  There was a couple of times the adaptive cruise actually made passing more problematic or less smooth.

We have a 19 Toyota rav4 with it. It has the option to engage Cruise with or without the Adaptive feature.  I love it on 2 lane roads where passing is difficult.  I hate it on the interstate.  I found that it was better on the interstate to turn it off. That way when you creep up on the vehicle in front of you, you take action, either slow down or pass.  We will be using our 2020 to pull our TT. We prefer using 2 lane roads and wish we had the feature, but will not miss it when on the highway.

My wifes car has it, and I hate it. When  I'm cruising on highway and gets triggered  and suddenly hard braking when not needed because it trigger off another car when they jump in front of me to pass or just cut into my lane. and if it didn't brake it  would have been fine.

Exactly!  A-holes constantly cutting in front of you would drive the ACC batty.  My wife's car has it and it's be disable since day one.  If you want autopilot just ask anyone how well that is working out.

My 2017 Super Duty had it, and while it was nice in some instances, I don't miss it. As others have mentioned, it leaves a space, then some jerk slides in and either causing a jamming of the brakes or slows you down to regain the space cushion. When towing I'd max out the distance for safety and people would constantly take up the space. They still do, and it pisses me off, but it was worse with the ACC and the truck steadily slowing down, speeding back up, etc to keep that distance.
