2020 TPMS/trailer cameras

I believe with the uvi system you can only get 8 secs of viewing behind the trailer when above 10 mph.  If you stay below 10 mph the trailer cam will stay up.

So while pulling a trailer down the road, you have to go through the menu, pull up the camera view to see behind you, and you only get that view for 8 seconds?

That is really disappointing.  I don't really want to pay for the invisible trailer option, I just wanted to be able to view behind me.  I've been pulling campers and boats for 30 years with out it, so I guess I can live with out it, but I was looking forward to it.

The rear trailer cam will stay on as long as you want it to, regardless of speed.

Which system are you referring to?  270 or 360 deg?

The rear trailer cam on my 5th wheel. I can select it and it will stay on as long as I want, if needed. The others have a limited time to view, but not the rear trailer camera. Not that I've experienced, anyway.

There are two systems that accept trailer cams.  Do you have cams in mirrors and front grill?

Indeed!

You have the 360 deg system (uvs).  The other poster has the 270 deg (uvi) system.  The 270 deg system has more limited functionality.   No transparent view, no turn signal bias, no turn bias, and no Camara views for longer than 8 sec above 10 mph.

Ahhh, got it. Makes sense. Learn something new (or at least try to) every day.

I'd like to give an update on the external trailer camera functionality I experienced during my last trip.  To my delight, I can confirm that with the 270 deg system, you can watch this camera view for as long as you want even above 8 mpg.  In the camera view selection page on the console where you can select backup view, truck bed view, internal trailer view, or the external trailer view, I was able to select the external trailer view and keep this view up for as long as I wanted.  You have an option to either tap the black box X on the top right of the view, select another camera view, or come out of the camera view selection page all together.  I was very pleased to be able to do this.  It is VERY helpful to see the traffic behind you instead of it being usable only for backing up situations.  No "invisible view' of course but hey, you can see everything regardless!

I will say this, and I saw this in another post, that you need to make sure you that you truck is powered off when making the camera connection to the back.  If you do it while the truck is running, you may or may not have the external trailer view option available to you for whatever reason.  Also, one last odd situation.  I was never able to use this camera view while in the trailer app on the console.  It'll detect the camera as it will give you an option to "preview" the view, but when making that selection, it'll ask if you want to "open this view in the app".  Thus far, nothing ever happens when selecting this option, you can keep tapping this box over and over again but again, nothing happens.  It never opened.  In other words, if you want to view your external trailer camera, you will need to exit the trailer app so that you can go into the camera view selection page.

Hope this helps others when deciding to purchase the external trailer camera!  I'll give an update if I am ever able to make this work within the trailer app.

Thank you!

Great info!  Thanks for the update.

Do you know if you have the rescue mirrow with the video screen if you can put the trailer camera view on the mirror?

You can not put the trailer camera display on the rearview mirror. It would be really cool if you could though.

No doubt!  That is a great idea actually.

Another idea I have is I wish there was a way to display the front senor detection to the 8 inch screen and alert there just like the cross traffic alert that is displayed there.  It is hard to see the front sensor detection display behind the steering wheel at times.

Another great option would be the ability to have the side mirror view on the 8 inch display when the turn signals are on and there is no trailer hooked up.

I had this set up on my 2016 HD 2500 with the Aftermarket cameras and I think it works better than the blind spot sensors (especially if your wife is watching the screen!).

Keeping this thread alive, as it is a good one. I just purchased a 3500 SLT loaded like a denali. Bought the tpms sensors for my prograde trailering system, thank you all for that. Question on the CAMs. How the heck is everyone running the wire? I guess there is no wireless option? I want to do the interior one in garage to watch my harleys and the rear to just see what's behind me.
