Pre-04 SIERRA/SILVERADO tailight Upgrade

I ditched the tailight lenses on my 01 Sierra and upgraded to the MUCH better looking 04 units. My local dealer was prepared to give me a deal at $118 each. I called my old F-Body parts guy at Vandevere Chevy/Olds in Akron, Ohio and he sold them to me for $78 each + $7 shipping. His name is Dal Slabaugh and I have dealt with him for a number of years. He does everything GM.

p.s. the units come complete with wiring and bulbs, all you have to do is plug them in. 30 minutes to install both.

Well at the risk of sounding like a dumb @$$...what do the new 04 tails look like? I mean is the difference? I was at my local GMC dealer and I saw some 04 Sierras and the only difference I could tell was there seems to be a black outline on the lenses rather than a dark red. Is that the difference or I am overlooking something here?

Sorry about the email. It is a private network run by my friend and he had some problem with spammers...just so happens that all email accounts were deleted last night. Bah.

Back to the taillights...I got the pic, but what is really different about them? Am I missing something?

On a side note, I did like that guy's tailgate handle. Very nice...it would look good with my Escalade door handles I installed recently.

Any info on this item? Was it homemade or purchased (and if so from where?)

I was thinking the same thing. Those look like the '03s unless I'm missing some small detail. Of course, I could be going blind....

They are 03's. I don't think the 04's are any different. Oh and with the handle I don't really know what he did with those the members name is 8100HD and I believe his tailgate cap is from an SS.

A Silverado SS? Or some kind of aftermarket part and its just called an SS cap? I don't recall the SS pickup having a chrome handle...but I could be wrong.

No the topic isn't pointless Nikoto has an 01 sierra which has different style that the new 03-04's. A little flatter and rounded look. Then no 03-04's have the bulges for the lights.

Sorry I got screwed up. You are right there is no chrome handle on the Silverado SS. I thought there was a question about his tailgate cap(whaletail). And that is from a silverado SS. But no I don't know what the tailgate handle was from.

lol...ok now that I look back and actually read the topic, I realize it just means the 03/04 lights are actually the same, just upgraded from previous style. My fault...heh

But, I'm glad we did get into this discussion, I am very much intrigued by this chrome tailgate handle...didn't you say that pic was from a member here? I would very much like to make/buy one.
